New blogpost: It's Not Just About Forks elinegerritsen.com/2024/09/22/its… Social norms get misrepresented in metaethics with the focus on the niche of formal dinner party etiquette. For a serious analysis of social normativity, we need to look far beyond fork rules.

I'm having the saddest interaction with @wearehims and @wearehers, a predatory telehealth company. My mom has gone through a mental and cognitive health decline in the last few years. She also struggles with binge eating. THREAD 🧵

I will be on a research visit in Stockholm again in September-mid October. I'm already planning a visit to Gothenburg but would gladly come to more places while I'm around - so if anyone in Sweden would be interested in a talk on social norms/normativity, do reach out!

Can anyone point me to literature on the link between etiquette(/manners) and class(/social inequality/exclusion)? I'm surprised at how little I am finding on this...

@earlymodernjohn I was equally shocked when Turnitin told me that the page numbers 1-8 were already used in a different work!

Appalled to find out, with the invaluable help of Turnitin, that this student has shamelessly and repeatedly plagiarised the word 'the'.

Looking forward to hearing the thoughts of legal theorists on the normativity of social norms! I'm also giving a talk on this paper (not pre-read) at @UoE_Philosophy on the 20th, 11-12:30.

@RobWhit28130167 @alma_diamond @UoE_Philosophy That's why I make a distinction between formal normativity and authoritative normativity - social norms at least have the former, the question is whether they have the latter. Are they merely prescriptive in form or really binding?
