I'm a faithful flyer of @AlaskaAir and today my checked bag went from $30 to $100 for being 6lbs over 50lbs. I was told to take 6lbs out and just carry it in my bare hands around the airport to avoid the additional $70 I was being charged for being 6lbs over the weight limit
