Morning! Today, I am announcing an additional €2million to expand scholarships for higher education. This will benefit those with a disability, lone parents and first time mature students This scholarship programme will be extended to cover graduate entry medicine.

In May @bankofireland decided to cease the only #GraduateEntryMedicine loans making GEM only accessible to those who could privately fund >€16k a yr. Please join us in campaigning #GEMforALL so anyone can become a doctor irrespective of their background. youtu.be/O86fmadwK10

Time to listen to our NCHDs and take their concerns, careers and work-life balance (or lack thereof) seriously.

@HSE_HR are betting that if they make you work crazy hours, force you to work 24hr shifts, demand you spend your spare time studying for mandatory exams, that you will not have the appetite to chase things as simple as correct pay and access to payslips. #StandingUp4NCHDs

Why are doctors threatening industrial action? 2 months since I changed hospital. I have worked 8x24hr shifts in addition to my working normal hours & extended days caring for patients & covering colleagues I have not been paid a minute of this overtime #StandingUp4NCHDs

Glad to see this issue covered by the @thejournal_ie. The future funding of higher education cannot continue to be this uncertain for students. We need action on the cost of college now. It’s 6 years since Cassells report and fees only going up. It’s beyond time to #AbolishFees

This morning I’ll be asking Minister Harris how he is going to help graduate medical students facing the loss of the only loan which had a moratorium on repayments until after they completed their studies. Will share details of response here #SenatorForStudents

I have my notes prepared, have spoken to the students affected, and I’m ready to ask the minister to make a statement on the withdrawal of the BOI GEM loan from the market 💪

I don’t know anyone who could afford those repayments while still in full time education.

Anyone know why BOI have decided this and why the other banks/credit unions are not offering financial packages to this group of students? The interest charged is massive.

Ironic to address issues with the original loan and find removing it with no alternative option to be the best solution?
