@ArthurMacwaters I wonder if anything happened before the 1920s that might have influenced that. No way to be sure I suppose.

Absolutely pathetic mentality.

@buttholefactory Was once in a store with a Torontonian getting food for dinner. We agreed on Italian but he then said that we needed noodles. I was so confused about the pivot to Chinese food until he marched over to the pasta.

@PolitlcsGlobal Not sure I'd call moaning about it for 40 years "diplomacy" but then again this is Argentina we're talking about

@NoBoozeHere So true. It was morally incorrect to sail around stopping slave ships. Those damned British.
English

The UK has never been morally correct on any issue in the history of the world.
kb@ojvhteuhyhes
little bit funny that the falklands is genuinely one of only geopolitical situations where the uk is on the morally correct side (to the point where it feels like a made up hypothetical scenario) and yet argentina have made opposing it a key part of their national identity lol

Argentina should have them:
1. Becauae of geographical proximity and reality.
2. Because Britain seized them by force in 1833.
3. Because it is ridiculous that Britain still has colonies thousands of miles away in this day and age.
4. Because Argentina is relatively poor and resources there could boost its economy.

A history lesson about Las Malvinas for all the trolls:
Britain first occupied the islands in 1765 but were kicked out by the Spanish a few years later.
Then in 1833 it took the islands by military force from Argentina which had inherited Spain’s claim after independence a few decades earlier and had established authority on the islands.
Given their geographical proximity to Argentina this was not surprising.
How do you think Britain would feel if a foreign nation 8,000 miles away took the Isle of Wight by military force and established settlers on it?
Britain argues that the settlers it established on Las Malvinas want to stay British. But frankly why should their opinion count when they are living on occupied land?
The honourable thing to do would be to just give the islands back to the Argentinians. But I really can't remember the last time Britain did the honourable thing.
