@am_nazoo @dalymoder @WildSentences The reality of life is that you have to work to live. This has not changed in hundreds of years. It may suck, but the point of therapy is to find a way to cope with the realities of life and find happiness. Otherwise the alternative is misery or suicide.

@hemakhemak @PatrickFIanagan Mehhhhh part of this is crime being underreported by the police. The police won’t even show up for low level theft. Maybe that was also the case 20 years ago but I’m skeptical of the reported crime numbers. Speaking as a Minneapolis “lib”

@PatrickFIanagan I genuinely understand that crime still exists in Minneapolis and it's definitely worse in some neighborhoods than it used to be, but it's definitively better than it was in the 80s/90s, and better than it's was 3 years ago. Also crime's not the be all end of a city's worth.

I'm in my 40s. I've lived in Minneapolis area the large majority of my life. This city's better than ever. It's wealthier, better educated, with more arts and way better food, and so much more equitable than in the 80s/90s. I'm lucky to live in a place that's only gotten better.

This is one of the most disappointing rabbit holes we have ever seen with our food… Rao’s was one of the most beloved clean ingredient staples in every health conscious consumers kitchen. Then they were bought out by Campbell’s in 2024… In 2025 Campbell’s also bought 49% of La Regina, who produces Rao’s tomato‑based sauces. The ingredients stayed the same on the back. But customers are now claiming Rao’s is now more watery, tangier, more acidic, less tomato‑forward, and sometimes “cheap store brand” quality. Loyal customers say the sauce tastes worse, look more orange, have more chunks, or taste more heavily spiced and bitter. Then people flipped over the jar… ”Olive Oil” not “Extra Virgin.” This means they’re likely using a more processed, lower‑grade olive oil (or a blend) rather than a cold‑pressed EVOO. It’s also not organic, meaning the inputs are undoubtedly conventionally farmed. Campbell’s says the ingredient list hasn’t changed… Consumers point out the ratios could be different. The sourcing quality could be worse. Whatever it is, many believe something is up. We’ve seen a long-time pattern of healthy brands achieving the velocity to be acquired from a Big Food company and then just not being the same as it used to be. Shop local, buy independent, support your farmers.

@PatGarofalo Paid $70 for takeout dinner for two people this weekend in maple grove. Comparable food purchase. That’s just how much food costs from a restaurant.

Last night, my wife and I went to one of our favorite restaurants in Minneapolis. As always, we loved the food, service and atmosphere. We shared a salad, each ate a dinner entree and had no beverages. After taxes but without tip it was $74. We can afford it and will continue to to enjoy that restaurant. But these prices destroy demand. Eating out in Minneapolis and St Paul has become very expensive. Not because of some greedy small business owners making a ton of cash, but because of expensive labor mandates and high property taxes. MSP and St Paul need to do a better job of lowering the costs of their taxes and regulations, otherwise more restaurants and bars will continue closing.
