When my youngest daughter, Luna, was 6 years old, she jumped at the idea of driving an RV from Colorado to California to shelter a family who lost their home in the 2018 Camp Fire. In a lot of ways, I was just tagging along. Seven years later — and after sheltering more than 300 families across the United States — here we are. She’s grown up doing this good work… and along the way, I guess I grew up a lot too. See the latest chapter in our journey in the documentary film Humble River… it’s not over, premiering Oct. 15 in Denver. 🎟️ givebutter.com/EmergencyRV_Fi… #EmergencyRV #DenverEvents #Helene

Ok, I've had it with Thom Tillis... You deserve to know the truth. During the aftermath of Helene, Thom Tillis’s staffers emailed me "Hurricane Helene victims" to see if we could help them while FEMA was kicking people out of hotels during the Biden administration. 2 of the 6 people he sent me were completely unvetted frauds trying to take advantage of the FEMA hotel program. I sent the fraudulent people back his office and said they were frauds. Never heard back. I begged him for ACTUAL HELP from, you know... Biden's FEMA doing their jobs...instead of pushing random people on ME to help. Also never heard back. If anyone should be ashamed of their actions during Hurricane Helene… it should be Thom Tillis. He also BARELY visited us during the aftermath of Helene and was essentially dragged back to us by JD Vance, who was awesome and did help us, personally. ...but you want to know who DID earn my trust? President Donald Trump. He showed up here. He let Hurricane Helene victims tell their stories... for the first time on a national stage. He gave them HIS microphone and let them speak and truly truly cared about us in a way I've never seen any other politician do in my life. I cried my eyes out that day. He didn't just show up... he literally pulled in a FORMER NAVY SEAL to run FEMA who called me on DAY ONE, asking me what was needed. Cameron Hamilton, who ran FEMA at the time, got on a phone call with 5 families who had bad experiences with Biden's FEMA... I know, I was there. He listened to them for over an hour and a half, and apologized for what Biden's FEMA had done to them. He said these words, and I'll never forget them... "I am a public servant, it's an honor to serve you." Trump EARNED my trust through action, through kindness, through ACTUALLY KEEPING HIS PROMISES. Do you understand what that's like? Do you understand the feeling of screaming into the void for help... and finally someone turns on a light and says, "I'm here to serve, what's wrong?" It changed everything for me... You know who didn't do that? THOM. TILLIS. Where was THOM TILLIS when we were mucking mud out homes? Where was THOM TILLIS when I was driving RVs to mothers and their children in tents? Where was THOM TILLIS when people were lined up 3+ miles for propane in the winter because they were living in RVs and needed help? Where were you, Thom Tillis? Because you sure as HELL were not here, in Western North Carolina.

Thanks for the shoutout, @mattvanswol and for being so active on the ground in WNC when it mattered most after Hurricane Helene. @EmergencyRV was honored to work alongside you, @TheShawnHendrix, @Mercury1Charity, @SavageFreedoms and so many others who stepped up. When Americans come together to help their neighbors, incredible things happen. Disaster response should never be about politics. It should be about action. Americans helping Americans in their time of need. 🇺🇸
Matt Van Swol@mattvanswol

Please understand... I did SO LITTLE to help after Hurricane Helene compared to other people. My dear friend, @TheShawnHendrix spent every day for weeks actually handing out tents and driving up RVs from HOURS away... Shawn is a national hero. My friends @EmergencyRv drove RVs from ACROSS THE COUNTRY to help, MULTIPLE TIMES... My friend @SavageFreedoms who is running for Congress today FLEW HELICOPTERS to rescue people during Helene and did SO MUCH for rebuilding and clean up. My dear friends @Mercury1Charity were the ones PAYING for and extending hotel stays for people when FEMA dropped the ball... they literally paid for an ENTIRE FLOOR of people for 3 weeks to make sure they didn't get kicked out. Jake Jarvis is STILL working 500+ days for free for victims for Hurricane Helene. The Amish fixed God-only-knows how many homes and bridges!!! There are high school students CURRENTLY building homes for victims in their woodworking classes for victims out here. This is why I'm upset. There are people who worked their ASSES OFF for Western North Carolina while THOM TILLIS never ONE TIME grilled Alejandro Mayorkis like this or worked as hard as they did. AND HE SHOULD HAVE. Every single person in this post did more for Western North Carolina than Thom Tillis and yet received no credit from him, no recognition, and CERTAINLY Trump's FEMA did INFINITELY MORE for Western North Carolina than Biden's from what I saw on the ground. There are unsung heroes all over the mountains of Western North Carolina... those you will never hear of. It is infuriating to me to see him sit there and grill Trump's DHS Sec and not grill Biden's DHS Sec. I'm done... just want to make sure the real heroes get credit for their heroism. They all deserve it.

@brodflightcrew thank you for donating your RV to @EmergencyRv! Win win for sure! Your RV donation is now sheltering a senior couple in Washington State who lost their home in this winters awful flooding. They spent weeks in a shelter and were soon to be homeless. Your RV gave them a safe, dignified place to call home again. The tax write off is just icing on the cake. Your family changed the trajectory of an elderly couple lives who had lost it all in an instant. They have hope again and now are starting over thanks to you. God bless you, your wife and family for making this happen ❤️

@mattvanswol On a related note...we got our fed refund 3 days after filing online! A big thanks for that refund was due to donating our RV to @EmergencyRv ...a really nice benefit but we were just happy to be able to do that for someone in need.

OG post by Garrett Duval on FB, linked in comments: "HELP WANTED – HAY HAULERS NEEDED FOR WILDFIRE RELIEF We have a generous farmer in San Saba, Texas who is donating 100 round bales of hay to support ranchers impacted by the recent wildfires. Now we need help getting them there. We are looking for volunteers with trucks and trailers willing to donate some time, fuel, and highway miles to help transport these bales to wildfire-affected ranches across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle. Every load moved makes a difference. These ranchers are facing tremendous loss, and this hay will help keep livestock fed and operations afloat during recovery. If you have the ability to haul—even one load—it will make an immediate impact. Please comment below or message directly if you can help coordinate or haul. Location of pickup: San Saba, TX Destination: Texas & Oklahoma Panhandle Cargo: Round bales (loading assistance available)"

Large wildfires are exploding across the Great Plains today, driven by 70 mph winds. Homes and structures are being lost, with many more threatened. Confirmed, rapidly spreading fires in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. If you are under an evacuation order: LEAVE NOW. Do not wait. You cannot defend a home in wind-driven fire. Respect the orders. Clear the roads. Praying for every firefighter, police officer, and medic on the lines. It will be a long day and night for our heroes.
