@FredVHayek @hunterparker99 I can’t take leagues seriously when over several decades only 2-3 teams when the league title.

This is what pro soccer used to look like in the U.S. and people still wanna act like MLS has been a negative.

@GlennDavisSoc @espn975 Yes, but I’m still right. My guess is soccer was not as big in US so it was an easy fix for them and not much noise was made about it. That may change but not a coincidence football crazy SEC would take that approach. BTW, on average 9 men’s scholarships to 14 women’s.

@EmerySilva @espn975 Over 200 NCAA Division 1 schools have both a men and womens program. They seem to be able to get it done. Clemson, Duke, Michigan, Uconn, Ohio State, Syracuse, and on. It can be done.

We have spoken about this for years on Soccer Matters @espn975 . Top twenty accelerated with right hire and the use of "locals" who would be considered "in state". Our leaders not fighting for this because they simply do not know. Universities that claim to be international must have the international game on the men's side. Novel idea: what a legacy to the World Cup if men's program's were started at UH and Rice in the World Cup 2026 year. LEGACY Rice was all in on the World Cup but doesn't have a men's program.

So many opinions about how we grow the game in the United States, but rarely ever hear or read about the lack of Men's D1 college soccer in conferences like the SEC and Big 12, any many others. Most people don't even realize The University of Texas has no Men's team... sigh 😞

One has to wonder if England's players should test themselves in MLS the way Messi has. Perhaps then they wouldn't choke.

@meaghan_garvey Just finished Midwestern Death Trip. Last chapter solidified it as not just great, but a masterpiece. Hope others see it that way too. FYI - Met you in Houston last year w/ my teenage boys during @countyhwy tour.

@Sinskiman @tombogert @KeepingTabsPod But Guillerme is an example of other ways. Initial complaints were you don’t spend only $2mil on a DP but he’s better than many $10mil DPs. I think bringing him & spending on Bogusz shows good faith. But will agree w/ you if they don’t bring in quality 3rd DP.

@EmerySilva @tombogert @KeepingTabsPod I know how the Dynamo does business, and they've gotten away with it for too long. It's time for fans to speak out on their weak spending. Of course there are other ways to have success, but I don't see the club doing any of those things.

And now, according to @tombogert they can't. I will say it (again) with a heavy heart, that we just don't have the level of ambition as a club befitting of the city of Houston that it should aspire to. Soccer is massive here. But our roster has never reflected that. 🪡 🧵

@Sinskiman Yeah, I think these people must not have wives who are like, “you mean that game where people kick a ball around a lot and try to aim it into a net. And fans think it’s very important that one group does it better than the other.” My wife has a whole 5-mn skit mocking sports.

Why are commentators so blind to flopping in futbol? It took VAR before they acknowledged it when it was clear after the first replay it wasn’t a foul. So often it’s clearly a flop. There needs to be a bigger shame campaign for flopping, not commentators buying every flop.

@kaiouZX - So many other ways to protect players. If a player goes off injured, then issue a red card. If injury is discovered after, issue a multi-game ban. You all correctly remind others red cards are not just for intentional acts but then claim it’s a deterrent. How?

@DiceElDani FIFA never cited their ruling was because of improper VAR protocol. You are just making stuff up.

Interesting precedent we’ve got now. If today’s VAR intervention that erased Egypt’s goal was indeed against protocol, will FIFA step in after the match to correct it like they did with Balogun? Or does “justice” only apply to certain situations?

@mar2vickers @DiceElDani But this is nowhere near the frequency of red cards being issued and it was a suspension served at the beginning of a season. He didn’t nearly break his ankles. Such nonsense. And the guy cut into his space, which is why it even happened although not arguing that guy fouled him.

Let’s put it in American sports terms: If Wemby got suspended before a Spurs–Knicks Finals, not one Knicks fan would be crying about “we want San Antonio at full strength.” They’d be saying, “Rules are rules. Next man up.” But because it’s soccer, suddenly Belgium is supposed to care about America’s honor arc more than advancing in a World Cup? Please. Tournament football is not a Disney movie. The goal is to survive and move on.

@kaiouZX @DiceElDani Also thank goodness Premier League revised their automatic 3-game ban for hair pulling. That was so stupid, just like covering the mouth ban is, which EPL also rejected. Stop defending stupid rules.

@EmerySilva @DiceElDani What? Studs up with contact is enough justification of a red. That is a real risk of injury. Have you ever been crunched by someone full pelt with studs up? Even if it grazes you there is definitely at least 'risk of injury'. You just showed you don't know what a problem is.

@kaiouZX @DiceElDani Red cards should apply to reckless or egregious behavior & denial of goal scoring opportunity. Not for inconsequential plays that have no impact on scoring & caused no injury. If an injury is discovered, enact multi-game ban like they did to Qatar player.

@kaiouZX @DiceElDani To take a team down to 10 players & have the player miss the next game? No other sport does something like this. Your whole argument is a worst case hypothetical, not reality. One of these red cards was called on my MLS team & it ruined a close game. Dude was not injured.

@kaiouZX @DiceElDani I am not against VAR. The only way you can justify a red card is if there is real risk of injury. These plays happen all the time. The players are just fine. Just like this player was not injured. Stop making up a phantom problem. This is not ballet.

@EmerySilva @DiceElDani If you’re against the concept of VAR, you’re against correct refereeing and giving the decision makers clearer views of on field incidents. You hyping that up as some macho-benefit just shows your lack of respect towards the sport and care for athlete health. Typical

@kaiouZX @DiceElDani I understand it just fine. It’s all so ridiculous. The only reason the ref saw it was because of VAR. Guys all over the world play without VAR and kick opposing players like that and they just keep playing. It’s so absurd to claim it’s some big danger.

@plandericus @thomaschattwill Uh huh. The overuse of the red card is one of the first things I noticed in need of reform. Astonishing it is used for plays of no consequence that cause no injury. It encourages play acting because the red card is so punitive. Many other ways to address injury concerns.

After this World Cup, there might just need to be a moratorium on American involvement with the beautiful game.
JustinRob@BALANC3Dth0ts

@thomaschattwill As an American, I don’t want to watch a game where accidentally stepping on an ankle gets you ejected, forced to play a man down, and suspended from additional games as if you intentionally fucking drop kicked a dude in the face 😂 such a twat sport
