Today marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed. Inea is a New Yorker and a Nakba survivor. She shared her story with us — one of home, tradition and memory over generations.

78 years ago, 800,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes. Britain made it possible. Today, Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Britain made it possible. 78 years of the Nakba - and 78 years of British complicity in crimes against the Palestinian people.

In The Chronicles of Narnia, when the children ask if Aslan (the Christ figure) is safe, Mr. Beaver replies with one of the most famous lines in literature: "Safe? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you." Modern culture wants a "safe" God, one who affirms everything and demands nothing. They want a religion without a cross. They want to sin without consequence. Catholic tradition tells a different story. God is a consuming fire. He is dangerous to your sins, but He is the only Good. And He wants YOUR higher good. If you're a man you need to be like this, especially nowadays. Not safe, but good.

It is now the norm to go from kindergarten to PhD without reading a single word of Homer, Plato, Augustine, or Dante. This is how you erase a culture, and it's working. That's why we started an independent group dedicated to the study and preservation of the Western canon of literature — the books that built our civilization. To preserve a culture, you must continually study the books and ideas that created it. If the schools and universities won't teach the great texts of Western Civilization, we will do it ourselves.
