Good afternoon everyone, You may have heard us mention the term "Anticyclonic gloom," but what does it truly mean? "Anticyclonic gloom" refers to a specific weather phenomenon that affects regions like Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, and various parts of the UK, particularly during the colder months. This condition arises when a high-pressure system, known as an anticyclone, settles over an area, creating a serene and stable atmospheric environment. However, rather than ushering in bright, clear skies, especially during winter, this high-pressure system tends to trap moisture and pollutants close to the earth's surface. The result is persistent overcast skies, enveloping the landscape in a blanket of grey, accompanied by mist and, at times, a drizzle or fog. The gloom associated with this phenomenon is particularly pronounced in winter. With limited sunlight available to disperse the cloud cover, it becomes increasingly difficult for the thick layers of cloud to break apart. The light winds typical of a high-pressure system fail to stir the different layers of air, leading to the phenomenon known as temperature inversion. In this situation, cooler air becomes trapped beneath warmer layers above, effectively creating a lid that holds in the dreary cloud cover, fog, and, in some cases, lingering pollution. This condition can persist, casting a shadow over the days and extending into weeks in severe instances. The overall effect is quite dismal, leading to extended periods of dull and dreary weather with little to no variation. While high pressure during the summer generally results in sunny skies and pleasant conditions, in the winter months, it can instead bring forth this relentless gloom, which is why it is often referred to as "anticyclonic gloom" or a "dirty high." Kind regards, KWT Dave.

Here is your reminder that this weekend the clocks go back. You don’t need to update anything because it’s 2024 and the robots are in charge, but next week you do need to say “ooh it gets darks early now doesn’t it” to everyone you meet. It is the law. #clocksgoback

@UberEats @Uber_Support you are probably the worst company I have ever had to deal with in all my life. I am chasing a refund of a meal that was never delivered 15 days ago. I have spoken to your support team 3 times and been fobbed off everytime. You have the rudest employees

Good afternoon, everyone! As we head into the evening, I wanted to give you all a quick update on the weather. Our latest radar is showing rain coming in from the Southwest, but that's not our main concern right now. What we're really keeping an eye on are some very strong gusts of wind that are picking up. And this is just the beginning, folks. So if you have plans to travel tonight, please be extra cautious as there will be plenty of loose debris on the roads. As always, we will continue to keep you updated on the radar throughout the day. Stay safe out there! Image courtesy of Netweather at 16:08. @Emily_Cooper93 It's just "climate emergency" nudging. All government bodies and media outlets have been instructed to nudge people to think that the weather is getting "extreme". Don't fall for it.
