It was great to be back @MarsdenRoad yesterday with @tombennett71 ‘running the room’. Schools need to be safe, calm and predictable environments where everyone is treated with dignity. I also managed to catch up with some students & staff who I miss dearly, which was lovely!

Fact fluency and procedural fluency is the “…foundation of mathematics development, and Australia is yet to master this.” Toni Hatten-Roberts at #SBPIllawarra2024 So many parallels to reading instruction. Teach the nuts and bolts to mastery first, then practice to automaticity.

Teaching an instructional cue to students targets attention. With no attention, it is impossible to attain learning. The short term goal of the instructional cue is automaticity. The long term benefit is habit formation. Tim McDonald at #SBPIllawarra2024
