From a modest beginning of just 30 members in 2021, Lugazi Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO has grown into one of the programme’s remarkable success stories. Today, it brings together over 1,450 members across 82 associations, with savings exceeding UGX 320 million and more than UGX 430 million in loans supporting business growth and household incomes. Chairperson Gitta Joseph says the SACCO has become a lifeline for members, enabling them to start enterprises, create jobs and build wealth. Namaganda Mariam Mwondah of Muterere West Town Board, Bukoto Central Constituency, appreciates the @GovUganda for bringing affordable financial support closer to people in rural communities through @Emyooga_Program . Unlike conventional bank loans that often put borrowers at risk of losing their collateral, Emyooga has enabled members to repay in manageable instalments without undue pressure. Mariam used her UGX 1 million loan to start a rice business before transitioning into the sale of motorcycle and bicycle spare parts. She now plans to expand the business and create employment opportunities for young people by recruiting mechanics and repair technicians. Angelica Kaija, a midwife and former District Councillor in @KyenjojoDLG , is a powerful example of resilience and transformation. After losing her leg to a snakebite in 1999, she never gave up on building a meaningful livelihood. Through the PWD @Emyooga_Program SACCO in Mwenge South, Angelica accessed a UGX 1 million loan, which she invested in piggery and beekeeping enterprises that now generate a steady income. In the Rwenzori Region, the @Emyooga_Program is transforming livelihoods by expanding access to affordable financing and empowering communities to grow their enterprises. As a result, families are now able to pay school fees for their children, support household needs, construct better homes and invest in income-generating activities such as livestock keeping. The SACCO has brought together 76 associations, members are adding value to agricultural produce by processing pumpkin and maize flour, producing banana and coffee wine, chia seed products and honey, among others.
