@sleitnick Broadly speaking, only if the cost of retrieval of the calculated data far outweighs the cost of retrieving a variety of data or a large chunk of data e.g. to mitigate rate limits or reducing a database's load.

At what point is it justifiable to persistently store data that can be calculated from other persistent data?

It might be time to bring back place comments on #Roblox. One of the most unhelpful things on the Roblox platform is how users must 👎 a game with 0 options to leave feedback for the devs about what they disliked about their experience. There’s no way to attach a review, even if it’s anonymous. So as a dev, you’re put on a wild goose chase to fix things. Analytics don’t help much because they are quantitative, not qualitative. We need that human factor to tell us stories that numbers alone can’t tell us. As a developer, this is critical stuff. Surely a simple “frequent word” query alone would be incredibly powerful for identifying ongoing, unforeseen problems.

The new gains are not fully live yet btw. Cooking up one last optimization :D

So I actually did see some gains from that patch (v241) Just got a new optimization completed, it reduces the memory/framerate drops from worst-case scenario Profiles by half! Excited to see if we get any gains tomorrow

@TheRealSorcus I'm not sure the reasoning behind it either but I agree that it doesn't make sense - possible idea is that "if a friend played it, I may want to as well" but it's never drawn me into a game

Do people really find this " friends" information that replaces the ccu and review ratio useful ? #ROBLOX It is such a bizarre design where a real-time platform shows non real time data so prominently in prime real estate. #RbxDev

I spent most of my day today panicking over what UI framework we should use for our game instead of just getting a basic MVP up and running. So much bloat for declarative UI 🙃
