There's a clear underlying bid, just by watching the tape it feels like early positioning from insiders on a deal being announced today
If i put my tin foil hat on, perhaps Iran and the United States are coordinating this manipulation, and instead of the US paying Iran reparations which they demand, the US will coordinate/allow them to get $$$ from the market with an epic squeeze?

well, I think he might have to agree to the tolls. after all, it doesn't affect the U.S., and countries will have to deal with either a. no oil or b. fees for oil, they will choose fees. he will accept that instead of reparations. no chance in hell is he sending Iran cash. he has to be receiving a lot of pressure from close allies as well as people within his own cabinet to make a deal or end the war ASAP

I am good at being wrong lately but I don’t see how in the world Trump puts our allies in the gulf at immediate risk by bombing Iranian power plants / desalination plants. I’m sure he will delay again, but market won’t like that. We need a deal/cooler heads to prevail at this point.

@FL_DAYTR8R Trump tore up the JCPOA — a deal signed by the US, UK, France, China, Russia & Germany. Iran learned the hard way, never trust another agreement with Washington.The only real security guarantee left? Make any war with Iran as politically unpalatable as Vietnam was after 1975.

Have spoken to multiple sources, US is adding military personnel in bases around the middle east including in Jordan that was targeted by Iran.
Saudi wont agree to Iran controlling the strait and the Red Sea port is vulnerable to attacks from the Houthis.
My best guess is Trump is planning to escalate massively over the Easter weekend and hope Iran agrees to some deal.

If you think the Saudis will sit idly by and let Iran set up a toll booth, you do not understand oil or geopolitics one bit. The power dynamics of OPEC and OPEC+ (later on) can teach you a lot about what may unfold in the future. For starters, OPEC was always centered around the power and flexibility of Saudi production. Saudi says jump, everyone jumps. If you don't jump, they destroy you with price cuts and production increases. You don't have to be a scholar to understand this dynamic, just look at past episodes: 1986, 1998, 2009, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, etc. If Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz via a toll mechanism, it will have an effective say in future production. This is 1,000x more powerful than the dynamic Saudis had over OPEC+. There's a 0% chance this happens. There's a higher chance I can travel at the speed of light before the Saudis agree to anything like this.

@sydney_trader I quite literally said this yesterday to a friend, that's why he took Venezuela's oil first, as he wanted to ensure he had enough supply for the world. He's a maximalist conman, who is trying to divide the world and profit from the fallout.

The folks at the Pentagon aren't idiots, they know taking Kharg Island wont stop the flow of Iranian oil.
Its also more or less strategically irrelevant to the Strait of Hormuz.
If the U.S is going to commit ground forces in pursuit of securing the Strait, Qeshm and the other islands right on the Strait seem like more likely targets.
Its hardly a silver bullet, but it seems more strategically likely given U.S objectives.
If it was just about stopping the flow of Iranian oil, they could seize the tankers tomorrow.
