If it is confirmed, as it currently appears, that the EPP is not only voting with the far right but has also been working on legislative texts together with parties such as the AfD and PfE, this would constitute a serious political mistake. You do not build majorities in the democratic centre of the European Parliament with forces that seek to undermine Europe from within. Manfred Weber has in the past explicitly denied any structural cooperation with the far right. If there have now been chat groups, negotiation meetings, and the adoption of proposals from this camp, then this contradiction is unmistakable. Anyone who publicly invokes democratic cooperation while quietly signalling to the far right behind the scenes is causing serious damage to trust. For some time now, we have seen the EPP putting pressure on the democratic “platform” (working coalition) of EPP, S&D and Renew in Parliament, following the logic: either you follow our line, or we will seek a majority with the far right. Those who act in this way are, in effect, abandoning reliable cooperation among pro-European forces and putting the democratic functioning of this House at risk.

@EP_President True! Hezbollah is widely considered a proxy of Iran and finances a significant part of its activities through illicit networks, including illegal cigarette smuggling to the eu. Raising EU Taxes plays in the hand of proxy terror groups.

The European Parliament has long called for the regime in Iran to dismantle its State instruments of oppression, end its support for proxies of terror, abandon its nuclear ambitions and finally allow its people to be free to choose their own destiny. The events unfolding in Iran must not lead to a spiral of escalation that could threaten the Middle East, Europe and beyond. The Iranian regime's attacks this morning on GCC countries are inexcusable and unjustifiable. The regime in Iran must refrain from any further escalation in any targeting of the Gulf States, Israel or European or United States nationals. We are in close contact with partners in the region to try to find ways forward that protects innocent lives, international law and regional stability.

@SwedishPM True! it is in Sweden’s and Europe’s interest that Iran is never able to develop nuclear weapons.

We see a serious escalation of events in Iran and the region. Together with the EU, Sweden has already imposed sanctions on the Iranian regime. We stand with the brave Iranian people. Their rights must be respected. The Iranian regime has killed thousands of its own citizens. Sweden knows well what the Iranian regime is willing to do to innocent people, including citizens of other countries. It is in Sweden’s and Europe’s interest that Iran is never able to develop nuclear weapons. Iran’s nuclear program and its support for terrorist groups have for a long time been a destabilizing factor. Sweden stands by our allies. We call for restraint, the protection of civilians, and respect for international law. Swedes in the region are urged to follow the travel advice of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. We are closely monitoring how Swedish security is affected. I will convene a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the implications for Sweden and the safety of Swedish citizens.

We welcome the @EU_Commission’s decision to provisionally apply the EU–Mercosur agreement! “This is very good news. Today, the EU sends a clear signal to our international partners, our businesses, and our citizens. We are creating one of the world’s largest economic zones, with more than 720 million people, with all safeguards in place to protect our farmers. This will allow us to reap the benefits of free trade and international partnership until the European Parliament has the final say on ratification,” says the EPP Group Chairman @ManfredWeber.
