Our overall predictive ability was moderate, but was remarkably consistent across settings, datasets, and patient subsets (check out the supplemental analyses, there are a lot!) Surprisingly, our ability to predict growth faltering was similar even in healthy controls (7/10)

Using #GEMS and #MALED data from @ClinEpiDB, we derived and externally validated a #ClinicalPrediction tool to identify pediatric patients likely to experience additional growth faltering after acute diarrhea (6/10)

Then we could target nutritional interventions and potentially avoid stunting and its long-term health consequences (5/10)

#Diarrhea contributes to #malnutrition and #stunting. Parents often bring their children to the doctor when they have diarrhea. Aha!💡💡💡 What if we can use these diarrhea visits to identify which children will have their growth slowed down after diarrheal illness? (4/10)

These effects continue into adulthood, with higher risks of diabetes and obesity, and can even be passed down to future children through #LowBirthWeight (3/10)

Why? #Stunting affects millions of children every year, and is usually permanent. Children with stunted growth are at higher risk of infections and death, and may have developmental delays and difficulty in school. (2/10)
