In most of British Columbia, unlike much of the rest of Canada, treaties were never signed and Indigenous title was never meaningfully resolved. That history is one reason reconciliation has taken a different path here. Land acknowledgements are a respectful and widely accepted practice connected to reconciliation and the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. People can reasonably debate how they are delivered or whether they are always meaningful. But turning the simple recognition of Indigenous history and presence into a political wedge issue is unhelpful, particularly in a province where strong relationships with First Nations are important to economic development, stability, and social cohesion. As a candidate seeking to become Premier of British Columbia, it is concerning to see you propose to ban territorial acknowledgements and spread fear about property rights, making anti-indigenous rhetoric your defining message. Leadership in this province requires an understanding of our history and the importance of maintaining constructive, respectful relationships with First Nations.

Land acknowledgements are divisive and undermine BC’s legitimacy. I’ll end them in the public service and in schools. Public employees should act in the interests of British Columbians. Full stop. Join me: WinForBC.ca

@marissenmark This is special. Fascinating that their Deputy Mayor is clipped in the Bligh photo - is this foreshadowing that SKY will be the Mayor candidate for COPE ? 🤣 @vancolour

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is playing a weird and desperate game on Facebook right now. Just like he did with Sean Orr and drugs on Christmas Day.

Big news. OneCity, COPE, and the Greens have signed a Progressive Unity Agreement. We did the hard work, and we got it done. Here's what it means and why it matters.

@NVanCaroline Can you just build a healthy economy, fix the criminal system and chill out on 1-5 of your plan.

The NDP isn’t proud of British Columbia or our history. They’ve pushed ideology into our institutions and tried to rewrite who we are. My plan will end land acknowledgments, stop decolonization training, and halt the renaming of our streets. ✏️ Sign if you agree: WinForBC.ca

Zohran Mamdani walked 6 miles home last night from the New York City Hall to round out his first 100 days in office.

Supportive housing voted down in Vancouver. Again. Not surprised. But it's hard to understand how anyone stands behind a vote against something we know improves and even saves lives. I believe those voting 'no' know this. Which makes the politicization of it harder to accept.

@vote4team OMG Why would TEAM polarize voters with "enough is enough"? Neighbourhoods matter - but there's more. @seanorr's proposal shows an intent that widely resonates, along with the courage to begin the conversation about long-overlooked funding for services and infrastructure.

TEAM for a Livable Vancouver
Orr’s plan for homeowners is unacceptable...Impose massive property tax increases, then offer a rebate that supposedly cancels them out for the few who qualify. Property taxes increased 7% in 2020 and 10.7% in 2023. No more excessive property tax increases. Enough is enough.

@seanorr Technically, there are millionaire landowners all over the city. Do you have the backing of the province to actually see this through?

Could everyone please go to Madame Danh on Fraser at 27th. Unique, creative items on contemporary Vietnamese menu. I have fallen in love with the squid-ink fried rice with scallops and tobiko. It’s not as packed as it should be for the great addition to the scene that they are

@CTVVancouver “32 per cent of residents say they wanted to visit but weren’t able to secure a reservation, especially at high-demand locations such as Kits Pool, according to the report.” Commissioners go on radio and deny there is pushback. Open. The. Pool. #FREEKitsPool
