People from this culture think they have the moral high ground to criticize the West and Israel. Sick!

This is it. This is why I write. "Consider those moments when you’ve been reading a story and suddenly been astonished by a writer’s insights into your life. Into you. Insights by a writer you have never met. A writer who may have come from a different country, from wildly different circumstances than your own, who may have been dead for a hundred years. But who has voiced something you couldn’t put into words, who has made you feel seen, recognized, in ways even your loved ones cannot manage, perhaps even your therapist cannot manage. Who seems to have written this story with you specifically in mind. What a strange feeling. Exciting, gratifying, intimate, and also—unsettling." -- Suzanne Berne lithub.com/what-close-rea…

@PatriciaHeaton No. Horror lit is having a moment, check it out. Seriously. Also, have you read all the magical realism you should read?

The older I get, the more I only want to read history books. Is this true for anyone else?

I've made the difficult decision to remove titles from every chapter of my new book. They just weren't working and were full of spoilers. Better not to have them! Do you add titles to each chapter?

honestly i'm this close to quitting reading for good. every single author i actually love turns out to be problematic or worse. i'm so tired of finding out after i already got attached. feels like i can't enjoy anything anymore without a background check first

And what about cows? Domestication is a long process. Think how many thousands of years we as a species have interacted with domestic cattle. The ancient Egyptians recognized the cow-goddess Hathor. The Minoans revered them. The Vikings credited them with creative power. And while the people indigenous to the Americas did not domesticate them, on the Great Plains their cultural and practical dependence on them is legendary. If human beings survive the zombies, and cows do not, how long before we are able to re-domesticate? What would we be without cows? From an editorial published in Ghost Parachute.

Baking a strawberry cake for my son's 25th birthday. It's a helluva long prep to make it by scratch. And then there's getting the cakes out of the dang pans prepartory to baking. But it's for sure made with love!
