Khan was removed for his misconduct, which jeopardized the important effort to prosecute Netanyahu and other Israeli officials. The International Criminal Court needs a credible chief prosecutor, not Khan. It's important now not to give up on the ICC but to ensure that no litmus test is applied to the new chief-justice candidates. We don't want anyone who will do the equivalent of immediately stopping the investigation of Bush-era torture in Afghanistan or to slow-walk the investigation of Israeli officials until Israel's genocidal response to October 7 made that no longer possible.
