My boyfriend just had an interview to be an Amazon driver and the interviewer really told him that there are no bathroom breaks they recommend you “take a container” for “emergencies”. What the fuck is happening?

Residential remodels are funny because your options are 1. Pay $40,000 for a bathroom remodel with high likelihood of success 2. Pay $15,000 but have a 25% chance of getting completely robbed and a 75% chance of a terrible customer experience

@ronsterd89 Go to Discount Tire, even if you didn’t buy them there. I bet they can repair it easily. Next time, buy there. I hit a large road hazard at 70 mph and blew out 2 tires. They only had about 10K miles on these 50K warranty tires. DT replaced $500 worth of tires for $150.

Tires with 11,000 miles and a nail. Firestone told me they are not repairable. Firestone said this is not repairable because of the location and that I would need a new tire. It's a slow leak, about 1-2 psi a day. I am in disbelief that this is not repairable.. Can I not just get a fix kit? 🤧

I just spoke to a guy that drove to Texas from Utah, bought 11 new dumpsters for $5k each, and then launched a dumpster rental biz They rent for $500/week! He just went all in & bought 15 more. How's it going? Check out the video below. You'll love it.

Just pulled up to one of my roof tear offs and the homeowner comes out furious. 🥵 He yells, “HOW CAN I HELP YOU?” I had just gotten out of my Cybertruck with food for my crew. I’m walking up in uniform and I guess in his head I looked like an inspector, code compliance, maybe even ICE. Something about the energy was straight defensive. He goes, “DON’T BE BOTHERING THE EMPLOYEES. HOW CAN I BE OF HELP?” I said, “Mr. Lamboy, I’m the owner of the roofing company doing your roof.” Instant mood change. He calmed down in two seconds and started apologizing. He really thought I was here to mess with his project 🤣

It's insane how much it costs to be a homeowner nowadays. They are locked into rising insurance premiums (often $2k–$5k+/year nationally, way more in high-risk areas), property taxes, and maintenance. With renters the only thing they need is renter's insurance and that's like $20/mo.

@realEstateTrent @BPickle Thinking that makes everything apples to apples is the mistake. Price doesn't always dictate quality, but making this assumption is a flaw.

We got a $20k bid to paint our house, and a $65k bid. Why do so many business owners think ripping people off is how you win? I guess they "win" because 1 out of 5 people are naive enough to just sign the estimate and move on - and they take full advantage. We went with the $20k, he did a great job, and we will refer him future business. A vendor recently told us we needed a full replacement of our AC units - and sent a $50k quote. Another sent a quote for $80k for the same job. And this week, another vendor did a thorough inspection and told us these 2018 units simply need to be repaired, and have years left in them. How do you actually win in business? You quote a fair price. You show up. You do what you say you will. And you do a good job. It's not that hard!

@jamesonhaslam When I can't in good faith sell them a bigger makeover (replacement decking & railing) type project, I'll tell them to save their money and let it ride for now. I won't do this when I see safety issues, but I do think a lot of people appreciate the honesty

i am getting wrecked on repair work I had this hypothesis that staffing a crew to do spot repairs and fixes on decks (client doesn’t need the whole deck torn down and rebuilt but a railing needs to be redone or handful of deck boards need replacement) would be a “smart” loss leader for us (there are a ton of these leads, homeowners can never find someone to do it, opportunity for lots of good google reviews etc) so, set out to test the hypothesis, and we’ve now done a bunch of them here are the findings from the experiment -you frequently uncover additional issues which can lead to the client feeling like they are being nickel and dimed -if we elect not to fix a component that is still salvageable, you run the risk of a call back (I thought this was included in the scope and you guys didn’t do it) Just had a call with w a client who was previously super happy w the job, asked us to come back and do another fix, and when asked to pay $500 for the fix (which doesn’t really cover my costs for the trip tbh) freaked out and said “this completely changes how we feel about your company” If we decide to keep doing this, will necessitate a really skilled sales process and expectations setting exercise -mark all areas to be fixed with chalk and take pics for client to approve -explain that this is just a bandaid and it’s not a new deck build -be very clear and careful about change orders -do job walk at the end and make sure they approve/accept work Still don’t know if it is worth it tbh need to noodle on this

@jamesonhaslam Can always tell the homeowner what it's costing extra and ask them to split it with you. Worst they can say is no. I've had decent luck explaining shit situations and homeowners agreeing to help out.

This is a great question. My contract is to build to plan, and my interpretation is that we own any and all prep to be able to do this: we will eat the cost here. I think that will be somewhere between $5-$15k here (hopefully not more)

@jamesonhaslam In a situation like this, are you just losing money in this job or is the home owner paying for it?
