Most of the learning only happens once you have a machine to use. It’s all the physical realities of work holding, setups, probing stock, speeds and feeds, and actually putting features where you want relative to each other. The easy part is making cam that looks like it will make your part in the simulation.

@MurrayHillGuy1 That’s a fast bulk, which will shift the balance of the weight gain more in the fat direction. And also that’s enough protein even on the low end for a person who weighs over 200lbs. Perhaps the training is not very good.

My friend eats 5–6 protein bars a day, 2–3 scoops of powder, and ground beef for dinner.
Gained 25 lbs in 4 months… barely any muscle.

Prop 13 does screw up a lot of the incentive structure for housing. No denying it. But it’s hard to remove it in a state where taxes are otherwise high, public services are perceived to be poor, boondoggles like high speed rail exist, homeless problem never gets fixed, etc. Homeownwers (perhaps rightly) feel like “Ok here’s the one place I’m finally getting a break”. You might be able to get prop 13 removed if you bundled the removal with other tax and budget cuts.

I recently found out California lets people keep the original tax rate on inherited property so long as they use it as their primary residence. my terrible next door neighbor who berates children for ringing her doorbell on halloween pays property tax on a $100k value because she had the good fortune to inherit her $1.7mm house. sometimes I feel like California is the place where they said "what if we just tried every bad housing policy JUST TO SEE."

@Mike_M_Klotz @ITangoI For every one Bugatti Chiron put back together like this (there is only one), there are literally millions of rust belt vehicles being used as daily drivers with completely rotten frames and brakes. I really don’t think this Chiron is that big of a concern.

five decimal places on a drawing is for precision optics, maybe medical equipment, and the most important clearances on your turbomachinery. the equipment/room it would take to measure this wood handle is more than a year of my salary

If you are trying to get into engineering or you are an aspiring engineer, here is what an engineer drawing should look like today. There is no standard in terms of how to mark the dimensions outside of "ensure you get them all". Some people like to make a 0 line & start from there, but that's not my style personally. I still make engineer drawings and you should to, but they are becoming less & less useful because everybody just wants to upload a .step file & go from there. In my work flow the 3D model is created first & the engineer drawing after. This is because fusion360 makes it so simple & easy to make what comes to your mind! If you were at a big firm & they wanted paper copies, then you have to go find a print shop with a plotter who can print the actual engineer drawings. It's rare now & days, but it does still happen! Any wood workers out there? What's the fastest way for me to make these? I think I need a steel form & to make them on a lathe, but what do you think? 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

@Cernovich Nope. Gotta teach good decision-making. I’m prioritizing my retirement. My kids should aim for good grades and merit scholarships and choose schools with the most merit aid. If they truly max out their efforts and work hard, I’ll gladly contribute, but it’s not my top priority.🤷🏼♀️
