@HollyBullardFL @JoanAlker1 It so corrupt, they bill full pay kidcare as medicaid. Yet, say it not technically a medicaid or chip plan. Yet, my son does not get the same benefits as chip or medicaid.

"I just have to conclude that (Gov. Ron DeSantis) really wants to not do the expansion. I think he's going to try everything he can to leave office without expanding KidCare, which was the bipartisan will of the Legislature," (Georgetown CCF Exec Dir @JoanAlker1) Alker said.”

@JoanAlker1 They also raised the full pay rate by 15 dollars and gave us less than a month notice. Told us to make sure that we are responsible in making sure our bank knows of change in payment amount if automatically withdrawal. I have the letter.

Florida is violating federal law for children covered by CHIP and thousands are losing coverage. The Trump Adminstrarion is not enforcing the law. wusf.org/health-news-fl…

@ACintheDC My son is one the kids featured in this story. AHCA FL reached out to me and acted like this is not happening. They told me they need to look into it and get back to me. I will believe it when I see it. They didn't even know the 300 percent passed 2 years ago.

“FL Healthy Kids has delivery systems that are designed for healthy kids,” Freedman said. Families who have kids w special needs get disenrolled... because they're no longer eligible for #Medicaid, & they get moved over to FL Healthy Kids. The systems are different. It's not good

@CaseyDeSantis @SamGarrison155 Florida wanted to kick my son off medicaid in the middle of his cancer treatment. He was 7.He a cancer survivor on full pay kidcare and can't get the therapies he needs from the side effects of cancer treatment. He has a brain injury, and can't get the rehabilitation services.

@crampell Yes, they don't care about childhood cancer. My son is a childhood cancer survivor. The NCI budget for childhood cancer is 8 percent. My son has so many side effects from the 60 years old treatment.

I mistakenly thought the Senate was able to pass all the pediatric cancer provisions that House GOP cut after Musk's tantrum. But only a small funding extension for existing program ultimately passed. The more significant other provisions (top 4 items below) didn't make it

Sick children are desperately in need of Florida's Healthy Kids (ie CHIP) expansion. You can see videos of them telling their stories here: floridahealthjustice.org/child-health/
Joan Alker@JoanAlker1

New: @CMSGov has approved Florida’s CHIP 1115 waiver to expand eligibility to 300% FPL. Florida has 30 days to accept the offer and finally get the expansion up. But state has to comply with federal law re 12 mos continuous coverage for kids. medicaid.gov/medicaid/secti…

@JoanAlker1 @FLPhoenixNews The sad part is that our legislative branch voted for this almost two years ago. Holding family hostage, it hard to afford 260 a month for one child.

@USRepKCastor My son is one of them. A cancer Survivor with so many health issues. Yet they will not even let us have kidcare CMS. I am left paying close to 300 dollars a month, so my son has insurance. Kidcare full pay is only for healthy kids.

In Florida, the DeSantis Administration stripped between 500K - 600K children from their coverage during the Medicaid unwinding, many of whom were still eligible. The Keep Kids Covered Act would act as a bulwark against these harmful state policies. castor.house.gov/news/documents…

Kids across the country deserve access to reliable, stable health coverage so they can grow into healthy adults. That is why I introduced the Keep Kids Covered Act with @RepCaraveoMD to improve health outcomes, lower costs & support families across the country 🏥🩹

What are you guys doing besides kicking off cancer kids off medicaid? My son is a cancer survivor. I am drowning in debt. I have to take days off to take my son to doctor appointments. Full pay kidcare does not have CMS and unaffordable. @BarbieHardnHall @JoanAlker1

Today I had the privilege of participating in the @LiveLikeBella Pediatric Cancer Research Symposium. I want to thank First Lady @CaseyDeSantis for being a pivotal force in supporting organizations like Live Like Bella, which assists families dealing with childhood cancer. Her unwavering dedication to these initiatives spreads hope and support to families across Florida.

@JoanAlker1 The medical complex children kicked off medicaid CMS in FL were mostly referred to Full pay kidcare 260 dollars a month and copays. You can't be one day late or you don't have health coverage the next month. Medically Complex children families don't have a lot of options.

Leaders of states with large Medicaid child enrollment declines such as Texas Florida and Georgia claimed that families were moving to private coverage. Yet the data show NO increase in private coverage for kids during the same period.

The first data on coverage levels for Q1 2024 from NHIS is here 🧵 The news is terrible for kids whose uninsured rate went up MORE than adults from 4.2% in Q1, 2023 to 5.2% in Q1, 2024 800,000 more uninsured kids; clearly a result of Medicaid unwinding cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhis…

A link to the American Cancer Society about pediatric cancer research is not a resource. You were willing to kick my son off of medicaid during his cancer treatment. Your full pay kidcare plan took away his OT, PT and speech. You care more about fetuses than kids with cancer.
Florida AHCA@AHCA_FL

Caregivers play a crucial role in the cancer care team, providing patients with advocacy, companionship, & invaluable support. FLCancerConnect.com offers Floridians valuable resources to empower them in their caregiving roles.

Breaking: State of Florida flies an appeal in case to challenge 12 mos continuous coverage for kids in CHIP nationwide. The case was dismissed in May by a judge appointed by Trump. State has NOT implemented CHIP expansion passed by legislature in 2023. Bad link in prior tweet.

DeSantis' lawsuit against the federal government was a direct attack on Florida's children. Despite the federal government footing the majority of the bill, he's jeopardizing #CHIP, essential healthcare for our kids, all for ideological warfare. #flapol #medicaid

Did you know Florida and Arizona have some of the highest rates of uninsured children? As both states work to widen the safety net, their differing approaches reveal an ideological divide. More from @GeorgetownCCF's @JoanAlker1: washingtonpost.com/health/2024/06…

New kidcare site is a joke, you can't even access it on your phone. They want payment on the first, or your child will not have insurance next month. Yet, they create access barriers for children's healthcare. My son needs healthcare, he a medically complex child.

@dchangmiami @KFF @GeorgetownCCF The new kidcare site does not work on a phone. It tells me Landon qualifies for cms and to call. When I call they say he does not because he on full pay. You have to pay by the first or your child is not insure the next month. It like they are doing it on purpose.

This is how my husband, "Dads". He gave him years of chemo each night. You know what he can't do with him is run or ride a bike because your full pay kidcare plan does not cover his therapies (PT, OT) He was a healthy child before we were told he had cancer at 5 years old.
