This led to the Tumblr version which made her a priestess and made the curse a gift. That version's what ppl think of when they see her

@EstoracVT @NON21848128 Not really, that interpretation was Ovid's critique of injustice and it's not a modern interpretation and when I said "modernism", I wasn't talking philosophy. Ovid's version had a different appeal to it, it didn't follow the original Greek source, he used the myth differently.

Because in the Greek myths (aka the source) she was either born a gorgon or turned into a monster by Athena for having sex with Poseidon in her temple (and it was never specified to be rape).

2. "Medusa was never a priestess..." is actually not the original version which portays her as a priestess of Athena. Wherever you get your info from is tainted with errors regarding the story of Medusa.

As for the priestess aspect and that transformation was a gift, that was tumblr fanfic.
TLDR: Monster's was expanded by a Greek and retconned by a Roman as an insult.

@DiviBeats @NON21848128 Medusa was never a priestess of Athena. In the original she was born a Gorgon, 1 of 3 and she was the one that was mortal. Hesiod introduced the idea that she was originally human and had an affair with Poseidon and cursed by Athena.
