@johnny_lam_ I can tell you from a lot of research I have done that this confuses users and making reading even worse. It distracts from the content.

Liquid Glass is dynamic accessibility Opacity, blur, and contrast - ALL react to the background and context It’s not the typical this color with gray text scenario…

Hot take: Liquid Glass is NOT a design failure. Apple’s designers are league ahead of any of us yapping here.

@oykun To me it feels like they never actually tested this with users. The critique I have is the same as with the UI design from the vision pro. It's unreadable, they basically exclude 15% or more of their userbase that struggle with neurodivergence.

designers love to hate on raw, unfinished things. redesigning the whole ios/watchos/macos/... ui after a decade is a brutal challenge for any design team! almost impossible to satisfy the expectation. most haters around here have never designed in a large organization like apple and are not aware of challenges such as politcs, opiniated stakeholder, impossible deadlines, the list goes on... i empathise with the ui designers in apple. yes! os26 and liquid glass feels rough at the moment! so did the ios7 at launch. it evolved. this will too. i appreciate the brave direction apple has taken with this liquid glass ui. yes it comes with challenges including readability, compatibility and more... let's stop b*tching about it and contribute to solutionise these challenges.

But I think this era also deserves a real-time, journalistic account that captures all of the nuance and detail and behind-the-scenes drama of the race to AGI in a durable format. So I'm writing one. People often ask me how I work with Cursor on an iOS app. At Medium, we migrated to an SPM-based app structure a while ago. Almost every feature is a package. Swift Packgages are file-based, so it's much easier to add/move files without Xcode.
