Throughout all day I have struggled to log onto my Instagram account. Now I have been suspended. It is a small prize to pay for press freedom, but I’ve never experienced it before.

Asking my prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre about why Norway refers to India as a democracy when the Indian PM has not had a press conference in 12 years at home. Is not a free press important to democracy anymore? Støre points to India holding elections. He does acknowledge differences in press culture, but also points to Indias large population.

My colleague and I asked questions tonight both on why we should trust India given the human violations rights, and also about the visit. I tried multiple times to get them to be specific on human rights, but I was unsuccessful. The representatives talked about India’s effort during Covid & also yoga, among other things. Twisha Sharma’s mother in law, who herself is an accused, is repeatedly speaking to the media to smear her dead daughter in law, a deliberate attempt to mess up the case and yet the MP government and police are allowing her to speak on a case which is subjudice, she is an accused and her son is on the run. Shame on Madhya Pradesh government- till now the accused has called Twisha a schizophrenic, a druggie and someone who spent nights out and parents who were using her to earn money. Just a reminder that Madhya Pradesh continues to be one of the states with the highest rates of reported crimes against women in India

What will you do as a parent if your married daughter sends you such messages about harassment from her in-laws repeatedly every now and then? I'm sure all of you with daughters won't waste a second after receiving the first SOS message or call, and rescue her, but sadly, it doesn't happen so often in the offline world. Why? These messages were sent by Twisha Sharma to her mother, a woman who allegedly died by suicide in Bhopal due to alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws. The girl was well-educated and from an accomplished family. Why didn't the parents act after the first call for help? And mind you, I'm not blaming them for the outcome. The sole criminal responsibility for this alleged suicide lies only with the alleged harassers. I'm just pointing out the helpless social reality that many parents hesitate, delay, or keep hoping things will improve on their own, even families as well-educated and accomplished as Twisha's. Just sad. High time parents realise that a divorced daughter is always better than a dead daughter.
