@DrewDavenportFF I like hearing that breakdown. Poker theory is so much fun, good job knowing the opponent and following the story of the hand.

I realize this isn't world-class stuff, but I think it's a nice call in a tough spot for a sizeable portion of my stack. Of course, it's my fault I had to make that call because of my check on the turn. Here's how I thought about the hand: On the flop: There's certainly an argument for a C-bet here representing a pair. I prefer a check here to control the pot size with ace high. I play it both ways. Here? I checked behind. I'd say I play it about 70% check, 30% C-bet. On the turn: Here's where I can be criticized that I missed a bet. I get that, but I also didn't check for no reason. In my experience aggro players rarely check when they have any part of the flop (unless they smacked the flop, but that's only a small part of my thought process here) so when the turn pairs the board my initial thought is: "Ok he could've had anything on the flop, but the turn was good for me, let's see if he checks." He does. I now firmly believe I have the best hand. What's screaming in my head is "K10!" over and over, or something similar like K9-ish. When he checks my gut says to fire and try to end the pot. My hesitation is that the board pair is a suspicious card to bet. How would that have helped my hand? If I had a pair I'd likely bet the flop to try and protect my hand. If I'm betting Ace hi because I think it's the best hand he could easily think "he's not very strong" and now I'm facing a raise. That's advanced stuff, but he's a good player and those are the plays he has been making. I'll admit I think a bet on the turn is the "right" play in a lot of situations. But this felt like it wasn't going to ring true with this particular player who is looking for a reason to be aggressive against me. And again, I'm a small-ball player and like to control pots so I'm feeling like I have the best hand and I have position so let's check again. Sometimes I feel like I "lose" position when I bet that turn and face a raise because if I call then he can push harder on the river. I can still make that river call, but it's much more difficult and now the pot is threatening my entire stack. Likewise, if he check raises me it would be a world-class play to have the guts to jam that pot with ace hi on a 3-bet. After his river bet my thought process is fairly straight forward: my read on the turn was that I was good and the 6 is unlikely to have helped him. It isn't easy seeing that river as it brought the flush home as well as put 4 to a straight on the board. Scary card. But my thought was this: aggressive players with a 2, a pair, a 6, a 7, a flush draw, and sometimes maybe even just an ace - will bet that flop. My read was he didn't have any of those. That means the 6 didn't help and his bet didn't make sense. What story was he telling me? - Could have A2 or A3. He checks the flop in both instances for different reasons - Could also have A4 where he doesn't love the hand but isn't going anywhere. But the bet doesn't make any sense there as it's a calling hand with showdown value, not a hand you make a stiff bet with out of position on that river My guess was he didn't have any of it and was sitting on K10. I was close when I saw the KQ hit the table. He either had a monster (55 or similar) or he had nothing. Felt like king hi to me. King hi it is. Fun hand and like I said, pretty stoked about the call. I'm sure I'll hear how I am not that good in the comments so let me have it ;)

Pretty proud of a call I made in a tournament recently. I'll put the hand here, then my thoughts in the first reply about how I played it/how it could or should be played. I raise middle position with AhJc. Everyone folds around to BB. He calls. He's an aggressive, strong player. Heads up to the flop. Flop: 5c4h3c He checks. I check back. Turn: 3s He checks. I check back again. River 6c. Board is now 54336 with three clubs. He makes a fairly stiff 3/4 pot bet. It was approximately 15% of my stack. I have Ace high. I tank for a minute. Make the call. He tables KQ for king hi. I roll over my AJ and rake a medium-size pot.

Rashee Rice is facing more off-the-field issues, and this time it’s related to allegations of Domestic Violence. As I said earlier today, I don’t have my laptop so it’s harder to dig, research, and make this exhaustive, but let’s hit what I think are the major issues. Here’s your #FFLegalUpdate. [**Important Note: Domestic Violence is an awful, brutal reality for far too many women. Things are never simple for those involved. Please be considerate and empathetic in your comments on this situation. Further, remember that my job is to assess the case dispassionately from a legal and fantasy football perspective. That does not detract from the seriousness of the conversation.**] 1 - To my knowledge there are no criminal charges currently pending. The allegation broke because of an Instagram post alleging years of abuse. 2 - The first question that will be explored: What can be proven? Have there been prior contacts with police or the courts for these two individuals? Often the police in a jurisdiction will be familiar with a situation prior to arrests or charges. Are there prior 911 calls, calls to police, Field Interview Cards, or police reports? 3 - Are there contemporaneous conversations that corroborate any of the allegations or the pictures? 4 - The NFL is not bound by evidentiary constraints like the courts. If they have credible evidence they can act with less restriction. 5 - However, placing Rice on the Exempt list is a different conversation than a formal disciplinary action. The level of evidence backing the claims is a huge skeleton key to the whole thing. 6 - Does this matter vis a vis his other case? YES! It absolutely can. That doesn’t mean it *will*, but usually in diversion or deferred adjudication cases the base requirement is to have no new contact with law enforcement. Can we classify *old* allegations as being violations of *newer* restrictions? That’s an argument his defense team will likely have to make. Allegations not backed by proof or police contact are problematic to revoke his probationary status. If you bring an IG post to a hearing where I’m defense counsel without more behind it I’d have a field day with that. Again, refer to #2 and #3. 7 - Rice’s problem now becomes the compounding of the two issues. If these allegations happen with no prior case? I’d say almost certainly it won’t resonate with the NFL. But things are piling up. Combine that with the NFL claiming they care about DV issues now. 8 - The thing we don’t ever see is the behind the scenes information the NFL is getting. I always tell my clients - the police won’t act if you don’t make them. The first call might not produce charges, but the next one might, or the next one…my question is, what kind of footprint has she left over the years about this stuff that the league can hook into? We will find out when they act (or don’t). 9 - Women generally don’t come forward against famous/powerful/rich men unless there is something there. I’m NOT judging her veracity, I’m saying one usually begets the other. It’s HARD to come forward. I tend to believe these things are hard to fabricate, and false allegations are not as prevalent as people believe. The NFL could feel similarly. 10 - In the end I think the NFL will be loathe to act without more. That’s a precedent issue and it’s a big one. But, Rice’s history and the DV component may force their hand. It’s early to say what will happen, but I’d lean slightly towards him not seeing a significant suspension from the league for this allegation absent more evidence. However, he’s headed down a path that makes anything possible. As a Dynasty manager, if I don’t hear the right things from Rice soon I’d be selling at the first possible moment I see a rebound in value. Thank for reading my #FFLegalUpdate. Please RT if this helped you. Stay tuned for more as things develop.

December 23rd is always a really tough day for me. Let this be a reminder to be kind and to enjoy your time with friends and family over the holidays. Life can change so fast.
JJ Zachariason@LateRoundQB

Fifteen years ago, I got an instant message from my best friend from childhood. We were home from college. He asked me, "How old is Bobby?" Confused, I responded, "He's a little older than me... he's your age...23." "I think he was in an accident last night."
