I learned recently Rubio is almost a god in the Latin American world. Everyone knows him there and they worship the man. The things he’s doing as SoS breaking the Castro regime is going to deify him forever. Here he announces sanctions and humanitarian aid through churches with no affiliation to the regime. Funny how communists only protest for ‘worker freedoms’ in capitalist countries. You never see them march in Cuba, North Korea, or China, where dissent means prison, or worse.
They brag that strikes and protests ‘won’ them rights under capitalism, but the truth is different: capitalism made people wealthy enough to afford better conditions, to choose other work, and to demand more. In the Industrial Revolution, men and even children worked jobs we’d find unacceptable today, but as wealth grew, so did opportunity. That’s why child labor faded, not because of socialism, but because capitalism created enough surplus to eliminate the need.
Meanwhile, in communist countries, forced labor camps, child exploitation, and outright slavery are still the norm. Where are the ‘solidarity’ protests for those comrades? Silence. Because their supposed principles only exist where they’re free to agitate, never where they’d actually be needed. So much for sacrificing ability to need.

This Tuesday ACP MN came out in support of teamsters 320 in their efforts to support students and workers at University of Minnesota. Numerous protesters were arrested by police for speaking out against the cuts and proposed deals. It is no crime to demand ones rights as students and workers and the criminalization of dissidents with legitimate criticisms point not to strength but instead weakness. Students and workers deserve a better deal and the proposed budget cuts being pushed upon them do not reflect the needs of college life.

Cuba trades with much of the world. The problem isn’t that nobody is allowed to trade with Cuba. The problem is that socialism destroys incentives, property rights, investment confidence, production, and innovation internally.
If sanctions alone caused poverty then communist countries wouldn’t need walls, prison camps, censorship, and bans on leaving. People would be desperate to stay.
The regime’s biggest export for decades has been its own population fleeing it.
