@stevemagness That's just cruel.... I remember in High School that Monday's were "quarter days" for those running distance. 12 X 400 at race pace or below with a half a lap recovery in between. If the coach had asked for one more we would strangle him, if we still had the strength.

@PaulFox13 @chasedownleads Current rate of SLR is in the neighborhood of 8.5-12 inches per century. If your inland elevation is 50 ft above current sea level, do the math. Spoiler - it will be a couple dozen centuries.

A pet peeve of mine: “But remember, Andrew happened in an El Niño!” No it did not. El Niño had ended before August Aug 24, 1992. See the Nino 3.4 box… it had cooled already. Below: see the 3-month July-Aug-Sept anomaly… it was .3 and dropping. So yes, there was an El Niño in 1992. No, there was not any longer an El Niño in August of 1992. Its impacts were all but done. Mets: please keep this image in your back pocket for this summer’s inevitable: “But Andrew happened in El Niño” Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!

Yaaaaassss!!! “Real” rain on the horizon for the shriveling Southeast and Florida! A “very” unusually active southern jet stream / storm track, especially for early May, looks poised to push two decent storms across the South the next 2 weeks, both with widespread rain. And refreshingly cool temps too! The best chances for significant #rain will be from Central Florida north, esp the SE, with lessening chances in South. This is the Euro AI model. #florida

Drought & dry conditions continue, keeping fire weather concerns elevated. ⚠️ Watch for a potential dry-cold front late weekend/early next week. It could bring higher fire danger. Please do your part to prevent new wildfires! 🔥 #FLwx #ALwx #GAwx

#Drought continues to worsen across #Florida despite recent rainfall. 73% of the state is in extreme drought and nearly 10% is now in the exceptional category. With the rainy season still a couple of months away, the wildfire threat across the state will remain elevated, making hyper-local weather data even more important. #floridaweather Contact us now to bring our state-of-the-art monitoring to your location: hubs.li/Q048rC6p0

@stevemagness Yes, but there is a difference between football speed (plus change of directions) and track speed. I think people don't understand the honed technique behind world class sprinters....

People don't understand world-class speed. There is fast and then FAST. Most of those fast NFL guys you rave about are former 10.2-10.5 guys. That's fast. It's a whole other level getting to 10.05 (Oly trials qualifier). And a huge leap to 9.8 consistently (make Olympic team)

Don Bowden was the first American to break the 4-minute mile barrier. What few realize is that: -His mile PR going into it was 4:08 -He had no rabbit. -He took an economics final before the race -And before the race he didn't "feel much like running, I haven't been sleeping."

News outlets can safely discard the "Here's what we know" in headlines going forward. "Here's what to know" suggests some things may not be divulged for whatever reason. Either way, you're getting low information slop co-written by a chatbot and some non-expert reporter.

The second reason that oceans warm slower than land is evaporation. For a given amount of extra energy (W/m²), the higher heat capacity of water and the ability to dissipate some energy via evaporation leads to less temperature rise than the same energy applied to land.

"The graph that climate alarm scientists keep quiet about..." Yes, the super secret chart that you pulled from @BerkeleyEarth's annual temperature report: berkeleyearth.org/global-tempera… Such a secret. Land having less heat capacity and warming faster than the ocean is basic physics.
Ferdinand Meeus@fmeeus1

Smoke is reducing visibility to near zero along Alligator Alley this afternoon from the National Wildfire in Collier county. Use extreme caution between MM 76 and MM 80. Southerly winds will continue to push smoke across the highway the rest of the day. #FLwx
