Florida is turning the tide on water quality and stormwater infrastructure by creating smarter policy that protects our environment while allowing responsible growth to move forward. SB 848 gives developers, communities, and environmental partners a clearer process to plan ahead, work smarter, and invest in modern stormwater solutions that improve water quality across our state. Congratulations to the Palmetto community, the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners (past and present), and the leadership of Pastor Lawrence C. and Clifford B. Livingston on the grand opening of Washington Park in Palmetto. This 88-acre project transforms underutilized space into a vibrant recreational hub and nature preserve for the entire community to enjoy. I look forward to seeing this revitalized area put to great use!

Senate President Ben Albritton and Speaker Daniel Perez have issued a Joint Proclamation convening a Special Session beginning May 12 to finalize Florida’s state budget and key implementing legislation for the 2026 to 2027 fiscal year. This special session ensures the Legislature can complete its constitutional responsibility to pass a balanced budget that invests in Florida’s priorities, including education, health care, public safety, infrastructure, retirement obligations, and tax relief. As Chair of Senate Health and Human Services, I remain committed to advancing responsible policy that strengthens Florida’s health care system and supports patients, providers, seniors, and families across our state. I will also continue advocating for critical resources and investments that support the communities of Senate District 2, including Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Holmes, Washington, Jackson, and Calhoun counties. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In rural communities like mine, this conversation is long overdue. The Rural Health Transformation Program created in President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill makes huge investments to expand access to mental health services across rural FL.

The late Senator Nancy Detert poured her heart into making the Loveland Center Residential Community a reality for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, low-income seniors and SWFL’s non-profit workforce. This week, that vision grew with the opening of two new housing facilities at the Loveland Center. I'm proud to have played a role in securing the funding that made this expansion possible.

And now there are three! Meet my newest grand baby Adelina Grace, born on April 26. Congratulations to my daughter Gabriella and her husband Wilson. She’s just perfect, and I cannot wait to spoil her!
