@ArchaicLens Right now? The Tartessian sculptures from Casas del Turuñuelo. I saw them in loco in Badajoz a couple of weeks ago and I can't stop thinking about them.

@1eyedgiantwalls I've observed two just in the past year with my telescope. Comets were seen as portents of change, but that may come from an earlier memory of a tragic impact. If the 1908 Tunguska event was, as some suggest, caused by the fragment of a comet, than the trauma is understandable.

Why are(were) people afraid of comets? - For thousands upon thousands of years these things come and go, make a pretty show and go away. Sure, they can be dangerous, blast in the earth and destroy everything. But, can they? How do you know that? Did anyone saw those bad things happen? Or were you just told by some sleazy "experts"? Or is it a conspiracy theory? Take the aurora boral, it's way more impressive, and no one is afraid of that. But still they are really afraid of comets. Why? Think about if for a minute. For millennia, since grand-grand-x1000-grand-father, comets have been harmless, kitties in the sky. Still, we are told they wrecked the dinossaurs or whatever and we get all afraid. Make movies about it. Just because someone told us. Why do we believe them? There is no evidence to show comets are dangerous. Zero, nothing, nada. Only the word of some people talking about giant lizzards or lost civilizations, and comets. Have you seen one? I haven't, for all I know comets might not even exist. The pictures are not even real, it's all made up, photoshop. Because a real comet is tiny, impossible to see in city lights and they come about so rarely, like once in a generation. Why are we afraid of them? Because we are told so? We aren't afraid of the boogieman, yeti, are we? Yes, we are told a long time ago a comet did terrible things. Why do we believe them? When the same people that say that deny, for example, the existence of a lost civilization. Make you wonder (I hope)

@AeonByte I won't be able to watch the live event (it will be 1 AM here), but I'll be with you in dream and spirit. Still trying to process how Gordon was among us, and now he isn't. This life can be brutal every now and then. He'll be sorely missed. Let's make sure his work lives on.

@Polygon They can actually make good games for the PS5, that still depends very much on the PS4 catalogue. We need great games more frequently, not consoles. If PS5 has to last 10 or more years, there's no problem with that.

@Mrwhosetheboss Wired headphones - Generally cheaper - Virtually zero latency - No charging - Less phone battery consumption (no bluetooth needed) I always use wired headphones when working. Wireless are better for walking outside, though. The wires sometimes get tangled in clothing.

@tc1415 This decade in the UK has been one of constant crisis and political farce one after another. Ever since a certain influence group managed to pull off the Brexit coup de théâtre, the malleability of Briton's choices was confirmed. Next step, will be their actual arrival in power.

@1eyedgiantwalls In São Pedro de Lourosa, the same thing happens: a few rock-cut tombs outside, but the whole interior, under the floor boards, is covered with tombs carved in the granite outcrop. The tombs certainly precede the church and may have been the reason for it to be built there.

@DrBeaVillarroel Man can be disgusting... Sadly, you're experiencing the extreme toxicity of public exposure nowadays. Add to that the fact that you are a woman and that your research tackles a divisive subject, and the result is explosive. You're making them very nervous. Press on, Dr. Beatriz!

The past months have been deeply exhausting on a human level. I have watched "colleagues" selectively use poor data with the goal to discredit our work, while simultaneously misrepresenting both the facts and our research. At the same time, some of these same individuals have been carrying out a long series of damaging and manipulative actions behind closed doors that go far beyond ordinary scientific criticism. I have read Reddit threads discussing me in ways no person should have to read about themselves, including comments implying I could become the next “dead scientist.” Probably well meant, but still, not fun to read. I’ve received social media comments implying I should be happy to be alive. Yesterday, I discovered fake nude pages using my name and identity. And some of our skeptical “friends” have recently accessed my team’s unpublished datasets through unethical methods and circulated their own “reports” despite having been clearly informed that they do not have permission to use or share our data. I'm not going to be silent anymore about this.

For future reference to those making cartoons about my science: please don’t put me in lab coats or masculine clothing. I don’t care what people think women scientists are “supposed” to wear. I am who I am, and I dress the way I dress -- it changes with my mood, the day, and yes, I love my high heels. First, I am a woman. And yes, when people deliberately try to portray my looks in an unflattering way, it does hurt me. Second, I am also a scientist. Trying to erase someone’s identity for the sake of an artificial storyline also erases something very real: science is done by human beings, not detached machines.
