When I wrote for the AV Club they sent me to do this Random Rules with Moby before a show, I think at Bowery Ballroom.
The idea was you'd take their iPod and shuffle it and talk about the first five songs that came up. When I got there, Moby's publicist told me that he "forgot" his iPod. So instead Moby exquisitely curated a perfectly diverse and just-obscure-enough mix of songs precision calibrated to transmit the image of himself and his taste that he wanted to put out there.
I was 23 but I could barely contain my contempt.

Okay, so here's what I've thought about Joe Rogan for almost four years. Rogan doesn't have fixed principles. He has takes, and he has vibe. I would argue he is the crown prince of takes and vibe.
Rogan is the coolest kid in class. And he will change his mind on issues (and people) whenever it suits him.
If he thinks it's cool to be seen talking to you one year, he will do it. But if suddenly it's (later) cool to be shitting on you? He'll also do it. Cool kid is as cool kid does.
Joe's weather vane is forever aimed in the direction of what he perceives to be "cool" and there isn't a heap of ethical discernment happening. Again, just takes and vibe.

Murray was the best man during that episode. It was a 2-vs-1 tag-team against him, and he held his own.
