Zubimendi has not received ball under pressure and sleekly remove the pressure all season. I thought that is like the main ability of a Spanish midfielder? I see Merino do it all the time. His mobility is limited but Merino has never been nervous under pressure.

#AFC | I mean it was always obvious. If Kai Havertz starts the majority of Arsenal’s games at CF we win the double. Kai generated more shots on goal than Gyokeres the whole game. Of course, he also won the game with his goal. Inevitable.

It’s such a shame that despite being an ex Spanish midfielder and la masia graduate, Arteta can’t structure a proper midfield, biggest stain to his coaching career at Arsenal. Signed Havertz and Merino to replace Xhaka, they both failed at it, and ended up having their best spells as strikers. Signed Zubimendi to replace Partey and Jorginho, and he’s already failing at it.

All things considered, Zubimendi has failed to meet his primary responsibility at Arsenal. The point of his signing was to replace Partey and Jorginho as the controlling No. 6 who sits at the base of midfield, receives from the defence, organizes buildup, and dictates the tempo. He was marketed as a Spanish metronome, but he hasn’t looked like that. Arsenal didn’t sign him to be a box-crashing midfielder.
