@Falmouthboy

Proudly Cornish retired RAF Officer, now doing a bit of local politics, (but not on here), so please don’t take anything I say here too seriously!

@martb1985 @StevenJonMiller I live in a small rural hamlet of 26 houses, 7 are/were rentals. 2, modest terraced 2-beds now empty and for sale for 6+ months. They still exist but nobody is living in them. 2 more will be up for sale when current tenants vacate.

Living HELL - as Landlords sell up because of Rayners Renters Rights Act, she has wrecked the lives of the working class. Rents are soaring as Landlords now sell their properties and kick tenants out, making supply lower.

@afneil The PM is conveniently attempting to justify what happened in the context of a ‘normal’ civil service led apolitical ambassador appointment. This simply wasn’t it was (exceptionally fo the UK) a completely political PM directed appointment.

Maybe. But that point would have better force if it could shown that Starmer effectively said — I want him ambassador even if he has flunked his vetting. But we don’t have any evidence of that. Starmer could plausibly argue that, of course he wanted Mandy appointed — but that in no way implied overruling UKSV’s refusal to grant him security clearance.
Adam Boulton@adamboultonTABB

All very well but the nub remains that it was @Keir_Starmer ‘s decision and he is now “furious” with the civil service for making it happen.

@afneil Surely no earlier than a 1400hrs start to allow for travel time, also covered by the working time directive?

Only right to wait til Monday. Nobody likes working at the weekend — especially in the EU. Remember not to convene before 0900 — or you will be in breach of the working time directive. I know there are major geopolitical events afoot. But the EU must never forget to live up to its self-styled moniker as a ‘regulatory superpower’.
Ursula von der Leyen@vonderleyen

Following the ongoing situation in Iran, I am convening a special Security College on Monday. For regional security and stability, it is of the utmost importance that there is no further escalation through Iran’s unjustified attacks on partners in the region.

@sophielouisecc I agree, they aren’t ‘shadow’ anything, irrespective of if they are MPs, Lords or neither, there is only one official opposition and one ‘shadow cabinet’. As with other political parties they are their ‘spokesmen/women’ on a particular cabinet portfolio, nothing more.

@DeekoT83 @timdavies_uk @FUDdaily The structure has changed with a Station Commander now filling a role closer to that normally carried out by OC Admin. Smaller stations (like Wittering is now the Harriers have gone) will be overseen by a Group Captain on a larger station.

@HuddlestonNigel @Conservatives I first saw her showing her true colours on TV during the May 25 local elections. Rude, unintelligent, arrogant, petulant & sulky. Deeply unpleasant woman, & that’s before you consider her fundamental lack of competence & honesty.

A fundamental dividing line between the @Conservatives and the left is on the issue of what the best route out of poverty is. We believe it's work not welfare. Bridget Phillipson and Labour disagree. So much so, that I got 'the hand' twice yesterday.

@1968Tv I’m more a rugby supporter and this video is precisely why, indeed men’s football probably deserves its own category in the Oscars! However, I found the women’s Euros refreshing to watch, none of the amateur dramatics, just entertaining football.

@tcamp202 British C130s use probe and drogue as I suspect do other NATO nations, also some helicopters do.

I love this photo of this KC-135 because it's unusual. The flaps are out, which means they're going slow. A-10s and C-130s are slow, but they don't use probe and drogue. I can't think of any slow probe and drogue recievers...

@kathywinton3 @ArchRose90 They didn’t enter illegally, which is why the item was in my view disingenuous. He’s a Masters student on a visa and she had a visa to visit him, so both entered the country ‘legally’ and are now seeking asylum. He was carefully selected for maximum sympathy.

The BBC thought it was wise to platform an “asylum seeker” called Ibrahim, who claimed that due to the protests outside of the hotel, his “wife” is “feeling endangered” & “now rarely goes out to have a walk." Can they interview the local women & girls who no longer feel safe?

The local authority asked a British patriot to remove his flag because it was seen as disrespectful and offensive to his foreign neighbours. In response, he took his smaller British flag down and raised a larger one on his pole. Patriotism is on the rise in Britain.
