We have a few dinosaurs.. Standing @ 3+ ft tall, the Indio Grandè, the world’s tallest chicken, will fill that slot! However, for tick control, they eat less per day than our Seramas, the world’s smallest chicken. An example that, in the laws of nature, size doesn’t always matter!

🚨 BREAKING: The Islamic Center of San Diego have been identified as Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vasquez, 18, per NBC Prior to the shooting, one of the mothers alerted police her son was sulcldaI, and said he stole her guns and vehicle. Law enforcement did not get there in time, unfortunately. One of the deceased victims was a security guard, and both shooters were found deceased blocks away in their vehicle, from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

There are already plenty of rural places that don’t allow you to keep chickens or limit the number you can have. It doesn’t escape me that for the last four years, there has been nationwide mandatory culling of humongous flocks, greatly reducing the number of chickens. As has been pointed out in this thread, nothing to coincidence..

@NCnME1 @rustyrockets Well, if you live in the city, you don’t have near as many ticks to have to try to control. Simple repellent sprays, and even ankle bracelets and wrist bracelets containing tick and flea repellent is sufficient for city dwellers.

@painterlee10868 @rustyrockets The simple answer is no. The chicken’s digestive system breaks down the proteins within the tick that contain the bacteria and infections, rendering eggs and meat safe to eat.

Definitely, adding Diatomaceous Earth will aid in preventing mites/flies & most exoskeletal pests. However, w/ over 400 chickens, 26 goat, 85 heads of cattle & 5 horses, you have to add a couple things to the arsenal to prevent an infestation elsewhere away from cleaned coops & stalls. We concentrate the efforts w/ fly traps & weekly burning of all the removed bedding in the designated pile.

@rob_tank84 @Farm_ReportGA @rustyrockets Diatomaceous Earth in the bedding gets rid of flies & clean the "night roost" floor every morning. Those 2 things are all ya have to do for that.

With 6 of these homemade fly traps spaced around the enclosures & yard, in addition to having ALL of the animals sprayed down w/ a homemade citrus based fly repellent, it’s actually rare to see more than 1 or 2 at a time. Nothing more than it would be without all the animals. Flys travel in swarms, kind of like bees. If you have sufficient fly traps that actually work, when the swarms move in in the early AM hours, you will have the majority caught before feeding time. The mixture that works best is rotting meat or fish in a gallon of water w/ 1/2 cup of sugar. It’s good for around 5-7 days before having to empty & “reset”. And no, you rarely get a whiff of any unpleasant smells until you are pouring it out. We eliminated this by emptying them into the large creek out back, submerging it under the waters surface then just let it flow out. An added bonus by doing this, you will always have a crawfish stockpile!
