@the_ostj People keep asking “which candidate is orthodox on women’s orders?” Both would ordain women to diaconate. One just would restrict new licenses for women deacons to preach at Eucharistic services. Diocese is not splitting over that finite of a difference. There’s an undercurrent!

@the_ostj @DOMA_Misconduct Since 2023, five congregations have left this diocese: mine (formerly Christ Church Rio Grande Valley), Missio Dei Houston, Apostles Houston, Trinity Lafayette (LA), and The Gathering in Richmond, TX. All for different reasons. How might things have gone differently?

Bishop discourages having to start new process, denies floor request for more than 4 min before vote to send to CoB.

What's the scripture for this, for requiring it to be public? I could only find Matthew 18:15-17. Here, we only go public if the person refuses to repent. ALSO, specific to elders, we have 1 Timothy 5:17-21. This says go public if he "persists in sin", again, if he does not repent. Am I missing something?

The ACNA should release the full transcript of the Ruch trial, and speak to what happened between prosecutors, and remove any NDAs if they exist, and not keep canonical charges secret, and make all future proceedings public. The church is called to have at least the same level of transparency as a secular court.

If that is true, I am uncertain why you engaged in the post with me in the first place. I have no dog in this fight. I watched the video as an objective person and there was no evidence of clericalism based on the definition I shared. The laity had an equal voice in that election. They voted, with no guns held to their heads by clerics, to send the decision to the CofB. I will not be surprised if either candidate withdraws. How does one Shepard a flock so divided from the outset? The outcome of that election stands squarely on the shoulders of those who voted- laity and clergy alike. They made this bed. The challenge now is how to lie in it.

Confirmed by two sources: After 7 deadlocked ballots the ACNA Diocese of the Western Gulf Coast is sending their episcopal election up to the College of Bishops. The two candidates: Ben Sharpe and Russell Martin

Watch the video. The laity had a chance to keep voting, and they chose not to do that. That is not clericalism. It might be lack of courage or apathy from the laity but it was not clericalism. It might have been a stunt to put the CofB in a corner over WO. There is zero evidence this was clericalism. Absolutely zero. The laity are not victims of the clerics. They appear to be their own worse enemy….

Last year, an ACNA bishop told a parish vestry that he was afraid of "strong men running over the church." He said this after he required their next rector be willing to receive Holy Communion from a female priest. What about WEAK men "running over the church"?

This problem of masculinity is of import to church misconduct woes: men have failed to act not because of the rules, not because of the process, but because they are cowards and have fostered a culture of cowardice. What men-abusers need are other men who are willing to stop them and to cease prioritising other people’s pain before their own.

@DOMA_Misconduct @DioceseWGC @The_ACNA I cannot imagine Bishop Lowenfield doing this. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t anything like a thumb being put on the scale, but I cannot imagine him so blatantly directing anyone with a vote on how to use it.

It's time to ask serious questions about the leadership in @DioceseWGC. Clergy are typically under oaths of obedience to the bishop (the norm in Anglican polity, but often misinterpreted in @the_ACNA). Were they at any point issued guidance to vote AGAINST Fr Ben Sharpe?

The ACNA Diocese of the Western Gulf Coast episcopal election is deadlocked after 4 ballots. Clergy are for Russell. Laity are for Sharpe. It may have to go the College of Bishops if 3 additional ballots do not decide it.
