Remember when federal land is turned over to state lawmakers, the Idaho Department of Lands is required (under its constitution and state laws) to manage that land for “maximum long term financial return.” That means they do a cost benefit analysis and then sell it to their donors or to the highest bidder after a few years. Just like American manufacturing and our housing system, this is another thing that DC swamp types want to hollow out and sell off from under your feet. If you haven’t been to all of Idaho’s National Forests, they’re the best in America. Saying “give it back to the states” would be more accurate if we actually said “sell it to the my donor friends after a few years of bureaucracy distracts people.” Selling or privatizing federal lands polls catastrophically low, people know this, so a few layers of bureaucracy is meant to make you not pay attention or get mad when this is what they want to do. Remember federal land agencies lost about a third of their employees Feb ‘25 during DOGE, that included trails people and fire people. If there are closures, these are extremely rare, avoided at all costs by land managers who dedicate their careers to public access, and typically involve saving lives (eg fire stuff). Fill this survey in (if you’re eligible) to have your say, these lands are yours and you have to fight for them:
Rep. Russ Fulcher@RepRussFulcher

My federal lands management survey is now open, and I want to hear directly from Idahoans. Approximately 62 percent of the land within Idaho’s borders is owned and managed by the federal government, and from 2020 to 2025, nearly 2.7 million of those acres experienced some sort of closure to the public. This extensive federal footprint restricts our access, poses challenges to economic stability, and has exacerbated wildfire devastation due to inadequate stewardship. I am actively working on identifying policy solutions that ensure Idahoans have more say in our land management practices. Together, we can ensure Idaho’s public lands remain accessible, safe, and sustainably managed for generations to come. There’s something so deeply special about alpine water. As someone who grew up in the Midwest, I was used to muddy ponds and rivers. Something that I loved then. But seeing my first cold, crystal clear alpine lake felt like a revelation. This is worth protecting. 🇺🇸

Carney did this as a silly publicity stunt to try and antagonize the Trump admin. Many Americans support the international visitor pricing. Raising revenues with higher non resident fees means we can upgrade the infrastructure in our parks, do trail repairs, and enhance visitor services. Many other counties have differential pricing for citizens, but we are somehow villains because Trump did it? Peak season demand and crowding is worse than it’s ever been, if this pricing fixes that even a tiny bit that will be good for resources and the wildlife.

I endorse this. I make it a point to get drunk once a year or so. It's fun, and social, and a good excuse to get up to things you wouldn't normally do. An exercise in releasing inhibition. Plus, bourbon is delicious. But also... I have a delusional theory that it shocks the liver into detox mode. Follow this tortured logic. Alcohol intake stimulates liver enzymes which metabolizes ethanol in Phase 1 detoxification and enhance the liver's capacity to process other toxins, clearing metabolites and reducing systemic load. The liver boosts glutathione synthesis to deal with stress from alcohol metabolism. Glutathione is key to Phase 2 detox efficiency. This is not health advice. Be responsible, kids.

Not even joking occasional binge drinking really clears out the system for a nice reset. Also it’s fun.

Colorado Springs Fire Department
🚨 CSFD DRONE LOCATES LIGHTNING STRIKES 🚨 This morning, July 5, CSFD crews responded to a smoke investigation near Mt. Rosa. Our Special Operations drone team launched a drone and quickly located two lightning-caused fires burning in rugged, forested terrain, both less than an acre. Our drone operator provided precise GPS coordinates to our partners with the @PSICC_NF allowing their resources, including Boise Helitak, to respond quickly before the fires had a chance to grow. With the Aspen Acres Fire already burning south of our community, early detection matters. Today’s response is a great example of how drone technology, and the highly trained operators behind it, helps protect our community, our forests, and our firefighters. Technology doesn’t replace firefighters. It gives them the information they need to act faster, safer, and more effectively. 🎥: Credit- Boise Helitak
