@Pandora_Delaney Hey, don't sweat it, that's my job. I don't think South Africa was a great place to grow up, but they were pretty puritanical.

Seems right! Aside from being a little overly sheltered & less privileged than highly privileged peers, it would be tough to ask for a better childhood The only other thing I can complain about is the complete lack of conflict made me conflict averse Overall I’m very lucky

I’m building a spatio-temporal Graph Neural ODE to forecast mass mortality events in Atlantic Salmon populations. Ocean data is notoriously chaotic, so I had to custom-build a self-regulating Organic Curriculum (using learnable scalars to thaw out the GAT/Rhythm modules) to prevent gradient dilution. It uses Zero-Shot Context Gating for layout-agnostic transfer learning across different farm geographies. A Codex Pro sub would be massive for helping me refactor the data pipelines to expand this architecture to other species and regions.

hmm I guess if I squint I can understand why anthropic included 100 MB of the plain UTF Tibetan Kangyur canon in the Claude code package … but it is a bit strange …

@hide_Q_ I live in rural Canada, solar panels work well here. We have very heavy snowfall, it's not a problem.

@0xSero They stole the dreaming from my project without attribution so they can go to hell (it's a stupid little project but still)

A weird thing that recent models seem to be doing is *very* occasionally making spelling mistakes; e.g. just now "faning" instead of "fanning". I wonder if this is quantization or something sneakier like watermarking?

I have a serious ongoing conflict with a family member and we recently had a long text convo in which both of our sides were clearly spelled out. she is so clearly in the wrong to me that I'm having trouble even understanding her point of view, so I gave the text convo to Claude while pretending to be the other person so that I could leverage its tendency toward sycophancy to help me understand her. instead Claude was immediately like "wow I'm gonna be honest, you really messed up and if you want any relationship with romy you should apologize."

@cremieuxrecueil Doesn't even matter. The strait was only relevant because ships traveled through it. Once they made it unstable traffic started rerouting.

You tell your AI you've been lying to your girlfriend every day for 2 years. It says: 'Your actions, while unconventional, are a genuine desire to understand your dynamics.' Stanford tested every major AI - ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek. Not one of them told users they were wrong. Even when users described illegal behaviour, AI took their side half the time. Users trust it more. Come back for more. Become less empathetic. Less apologetic. A third of American teens now use AI for serious conversations instead of talking to people. Delusions will be common sense.

a long time ago i had the experience of chatting irl with someone well known on twitter, well connected, well platformed, influential, etc. He was smart, seemed to have domain expertise in his technical field. But gradually over the course of the conversation I realized he didn't actually know what he was talking about. He used complicated words, but in subtly off ways, and would reply to questions with things that sounded like answers but actually weren't.He'd confidently reference concepts that I think he assumed I didn't know, but I did know, and I knew that the term he used didn't actually have anything to do with his claim, etc. But his confidence was intense and radiating, and the speed at which he talked and the complex vocabulary he used really disguised what I perceived to be both a lack of deep understanding of the material and also a lack of self-awareness that he didn't have deep understanding! I've def met people who disagree with me online who I think *do* engage deeply with the concepts, but this specific one didn't, and it was a little blackpilling for me to realize that he had such a following from a bunch of people who couldn't tell the difference.
