I’ve told my girlfriend over and over that I hate crockpot food. The smell lingers, everything turns mushy, and it feels like my entire kitchen gets hijacked for eight hours straight. So when I walked in and saw cinnamon apple slices slow cooking like she was running a fall themed candle store out of our house, something in me snapped. She kept saying it was just a snack and that I was overreacting, like I hadn’t already made my stance clear multiple times. The lid was fogged up, the apples were bubbling, and she was way too proud of it. It felt like she was daring me to accept it, like my opinion was just background noise while the crockpot did whatever it wanted. I grabbed the lid and slammed it down harder than I needed to. The glass shattered instantly, apples ruined, lid destroyed, and the whole thing went silent. She just stared at it, then at me, like she couldn’t believe I actually did that over something so small. I told her if I say I don’t like crockpot food, that should mean something. Now the crockpot is sitting there useless, the snack is gone, and the kitchen feels way colder than before. She’s upset, I’m annoyed, and somehow I’m the one being looked at like I crossed a line. All I wanted was to not live in a house that smells like simmering fruit, but now I’m realizing that breaking the lid didn’t end the argument, it just turned it into something bigger that isn’t going away anytime soon.
