@philchalk @RestIsPolitics @ZelenskyyUa @campbellclaret You are not being fair. Zelensky called for immediate ceasefire and negotiations, Russians refused. The only one blocking progress is Russia. You said that Russians should get to keep occupied lands, but they want more so they refuse ceasefire and negotiations.

@FittingMechani1 @RestIsPolitics @ZelenskyyUa @campbellclaret Putin and Zelenskyy have red lines that mean peace talks cannot happen. Although Ukraine is the victim, Zelenskyy must play the long game, be conciliatory knowing that Putin won't be around forever and Ukraine will be, diplomatically, in a much stronger position in 5 - 10 years.

In this in-depth conversation, @campbellclaret speaks with Zelenskyy about everything from the personal toll of the war and his daily calls with his mother, to the bigger picture: Putin’s mindset, US involvement, and the shaping of new alliances. @RestIsPolitics @ZelenskyyUa @campbellclaret Zelenskyy would, for entirely "honourable" reasons, drag Europe into a war with Russia, that would quickly consume Ukraine then spread across the rest of the continent. End the war, let Russia keep the occupied land, when all is peaceful, work through grievances via diplomacy.

@M3WDD @polidemitolog Indeed. Initial reporting said they saw a little dot in the mountain and then waited and after few hours could see the dot stand up and move. So they figured it out that it was the WSO. Sounds like a drone or a static camera filming with infrared.

The CIA used a secret new tool called Ghost Murmur, developed by Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works, to locate and help rescue a downed US F-15 weapons systems officer in Iran, the New York Post reports. This marked the technology's first field deployment. Ghost Murmur employs long-range quantum magnetometry to detect the electromagnetic signature of a human heartbeat and combines it with AI software to isolate the signal from background noise. The pilot was hiding in a remote mountain crevice after his aircraft was shot down. The barren desert environment with low electromagnetic interference provided ideal conditions for the system.

@polidemitolog These guys seem to think that troops in bases is what is important. It is not. The bases in Spain are not because someone is worried about aliens invading Spain, they are there because it is logistically good for US.

The US is considering withdrawing troops from NATO countries that refused to help in the war with Iran and redeploying them to nations that provided more active support, The Wall Street Journal reports citing two administration officials. The plan may also include closing at least one US base in Europe, possibly in Spain or Germany. Poland, Romania, Lithuania and Greece could benefit from the redeployment. The move would place more American troops closer to Russia's western borders, likely angering Moscow.

Actual quotes from President Trump: Trump’s “victory timeline” claims. Mar 3: "We won the war." Mar 7: "We defeated Iran." Mar 9: "We must attack Iran." Mar 9: "The war is ending almost completely, and very beautifully. March 10: practically nothing left to target Mar 11: “You never like to say too early you won. We won. In the first hour it was over.” Mar 12: "We did win, but we haven't won completely yet." Mar 13: "We won the war." Mar 14: "Please help us." Mar 15: "If you don't help us, I will certainly remember it." Mar 16: "Actually, we don't need any help at all." Mar 16: "I was just testing to see who's listening to me." Mar 16: "If NATO doesn't help, they will suffer something very bad." Mar 17: "We neither need nor want NATO's help." Mar 17: "I don't need Congressional approval to withdraw from NATO." Mar 18: "Our allies must cooperate in reopening the Strait of Hormuz." Mar 19: "US allies need to get a grip - step up and help open the Strait of Hormuz." Mar 20: "NATO are cowards." Mar 21: "The Strait of Hormuz must be protected by the countries that use it. We don't use it, we don't need to open it." Mar 22: "This is the last time. I will give Iran 48 hours. Open the strait" Mar 22: "Iran is Dead" Mar 23: "We had very good and productive talks with Iran." Mar 24: "We’re making progress." Mar 25: “They gave us a present and the present arrived today. And it was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money. I’m not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize.” Mar 26: "Make a deal, or we’ll just keep blowing them away." Mar 27: "We don’t have to be there for NATO." Mar 28: No major quote Mar 29: Claimed talks were progressing Mar 30: "Open the Strait of Hormuz immediately, or face devastating consequences." Mar 31: Claimed a deal was "very close" and that Iran would "do the right thing" Apr 1: "We’ll see what happens very soon." Apr 2: Repeated that a deal was likely, while warning of continued strikes if not Apr 3: "Something big is going to happen." Apr 4: Said Iran must comply "immediately" or face further consequences. Apr 5: "Open the fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah." April 6 :a whole civilization will die April 7: total and complete victory April8: objectives were met A true disaster

Trump called it a workable basis to negotiate. Which of those points are remotely workable Steven? The one where Iran dictates the US leave all gulf bases? The one where they keep their nuclear program? The one where they control the Strait? 0 of them are workable.

We count dead Russians in the footage we track. We track around 300 videos per day from around 2000ish video sources across mainly telegram, instagram, and facebook. It is a broad swath of the available footage every day, although there are probably lots of small sources we miss. Individual soldiers, small or obscure combat units, etc. In March, the number of Russian KIA dipped. This was expected, because KIA follow a known seasonal trajectory. They peak in December/January and reach a minimum in June. In spring every year you see KIA begin to dip. That said, this March was the 4th highest KIA/Day month we have ever seen after Feb 2026, Jan 2026, and December 2025. Russian KIA in March (5771) are up 40% from last March (4113). Russian casualties remain very high. Russian morale remains very low. We will see significantly more Russians die in combat this year than last year, although the monthly totals will, barring dramatic upticks in Russian assaults, continue to drop until late June before climbing up again throughout late summer, autumn, and peaking again next winter.

Jeez, what an argument. Basically amounts to: "Yes, the most powerful man in the world threatens mass violence and invasion on a regular basis. But, hey, he often lies, so just chill out everyone." Like it's all a big game. Like it's perfectly fine for the president of the US to behave in such an aggressive and erratic manner, and anyone who expresses concern about it is overreacting. Lordy.

Feeling bad right now for those who take Trump at his every word. A few months ago it was invading Greenland. Everyone lost their minds. Now he shitposts about end of civilisation and everyone takes the bait. You’ll probably see a deal struck soon. Just enjoy the ride 🍿

@PaulEmbery We also remember Trump making threats to Venezuelan regime and we see how he backed off there. These people are idiots. Trump backs down when he can't get what he wants, but he still wants it. Greenland is still his obsession and he backed down due to European troops.

@benleo444 Few months ago he was threatening Venezuela and everyone lost their mind and then he did nothing? He didn't come in and kidnap a head of state. Wow, such insight. (reason Greenland didn't go forward is because Europe forced him to order to kill European soldiers to take it)

@gbrew24 Hard to see why Iran would accept a ceasefire? Allow oil to go through, lose leverage, while USA ships troops in? Trump may use this "proposal" to TACO but there will be no deal.

"We cannot expect the Iranians, but only the Iranians, will believe him." Correct!
Oren Cass@oren_cass

I mostly avoid commenting on what President Trump says from day to day, while pulling no punches in my assessments, whether positive or negative, of his policy. His Iran ultimatums feel different. Making such threats is a policy. If he were to follow through on them, the consequences would be immediate, irreversible, and catastrophic on a world-historical scale. So while some will inevitably insist he should be “taken seriously rather than literally,” or that he is executing a sophisticated “madman” strategy in a complex game of 5-D chess, or that he needs everyone’s steadfast support to maximize his leverage, now rather than later seems the time to say that the actions that he is proposing would be a disaster for our country, both strategically and morally, which makes the remarks themselves a terrible mistake. Simply put, what’s the point of all this? If these are empty threats that we all know he will not carry out, then they are ineffective threats (the Iranians are on X too!), merely making the president and our nation look foolish. If they are not empty threats, then the president is asserting the American position that such actions are acceptable in this situation and ones we are willing to take. We are not living in some quantum thought experiment where he simultaneously is and is not serious. We cannot expect the Iranians, but only the Iranians, will believe him. Whether the threats are empty or not, we should be willing to say: This is wrong. We should not establish a pattern of threatening escalation from a blockaded strait to elimination of a civilization. We should not launch strikes intended to devastate the lives of millions of people and take our nation to total war without indisputable justification, or before the American people have deliberated upon and assented to the path with full understanding of what total war might mean for them. Those principles are vital to our Republic, independent of whether the strategy could “work.” But it’s also worth emphasizing that the strategy is a dead end. This war is actively weakening American power, increasing the danger to American citizens, and frustrating the president’s important efforts at addressing our many domestic challenges. It has closed a strait that was previously open, strengthened the incentive for other nations to pursue nuclear weapons, and in this most recent rhetoric made more plausible their use. Our choices for continuing the war appear to be catastrophic escalation of the air war or extensive deployment of ground troops, neither of which were planned or had support at the outset. Stepping back from these threats and admitting such actions do not offer a path to resolving the conflict may be unpalatable, but it is by far the least unpalatable option available. Let us all hope cooler heads prevail.

Multiple things can be true... - Trump is insane for saying he would destroy a civilization - Trump didn't mean he would use a nuke (at least it's not in the post) - It's not "TDS" to react negatively to his words (he's the most powerful person in the world, and his words actually do matter) - Trump will probably not follow through on the threat anyway
