Watching #AuroraBorealis out on the lake - Here’s a 15-minute auroralapse, starting at 9:50PM March 12th.

Aurora all the way south in New Mexico last night! Also seen with the naked eye. And at G3 storm level this kind of aurora display this far south is normal.

I learned a fun lesson last night when shooting the aurora in very dark skies. The Aurora can become stupidly bright, and last night, it was a beacon of light. The fires of Gondor would have been lit with this light.

I, for one drove over 250 kms in pursuit of clear skies only to be thwarted by an immense fog bank that swallowed the clear night sky whole. As frustrating as it was, it was part of this game that we play in order to capture the aurora borealis. Some may think that shooting images of the aurora borealis is simply stepping outside and pointing your camera in the sky when a geomagnetic storm hits, I wish it was that easy. I speak for many aurora enthusiasts who know well that sinking feeling when a G3 storm arrives and your clouded out. But to even further that frustration having a perfectly clear sky and then watching a fog bank blow in as a substorm arrives, borderlines a frustration that only those who pursue the aurora can appreciate. #MeteorSighting: Eyewitnesses in Texas observed a bright fireball today, March 21, at 4:40 p.m. CDT. Current data indicates that the meteor became visible at 49 miles above Stagecoach, northwest of Houston. It moved southeast at 35,000 mph, breaking apart 29 miles above Bammel, just west of Cypress Station. The fragmentation of the meteor - which weighed about a ton with a diameter of 3 feet - created a pressure wave that caused booms heard by some in the area. I've seen many northern lights displays over the years and each one is unique and special in its own way. Last night in the Nebraska Sandhill's was an extra special kind of night with occasional while pillars and hot pinks and reds. This is the first of many edits to come.
