He was riding a defective Sur-Ron e-bike with only one working brake, while high on cannabis and looking at his phone. He made no attempt to brake or swerve. Gloria, who was walking her daughter’s dog and doing her daily 10,000 steps in bright daylight, suffered catastrophic injuries including the amputation of her right leg and died shortly afterwards. Dashcam footage captured the moment she was struck and left lying motionless in the road. At Newcastle Crown Court Stokoe was jailed for six years and nine months for causing death by dangerous driving and banned from driving for eight years and four months. He will serve half the sentence in custody. Gloria’s devastated daughter said: “It is absolutely disgusting… How can it possibly be justice when he will serve three years in prison for taking the life of our mother?”
