I don't think there is much need for a serious discussion regarding Ersson. Either be a reliable backup, or the team has to move on.
Consistency is the issue. Hopefully, he cleans it up.

Samuel Ersson has had two 6+ week stretches the last two seasons where he's played very well. Not just "a start here and there" like his critics say. His real problem has been groin injuries and very slow returns to form after those injuries.
Does he need to stay healthier and avoid long down stretches? Absolutely yes. But is he a "legit NHL goalie"? Also yes.
Raw numbers are rarely the full story.

At 27, I like the player, but Tippett is close to his ceiling, and has never been a 30-goal scorer or 60 point guy. Michkov is only beginning his learning curve. I don't know why people feel the need to keep comparing them.
To be honest, both of them could use a premier center to help them achieve more.
