It’s a boat…it’s a plane…it’s a…Flying Ship! A Flying Ship was spotted yesterday over Beaverdam Reservoir in Ashburn, VA, USA testing systems and sensors. 🙌🏼

If you ever operated a pre-ARPA grease pencil radar like this, it’s probably time to schedule that colonoscopy #StayHealthy

This morning, I had a terrific call with Chris Koerner, where we swapped crazy entrepreneur stories. It was glorious. Watch for the podcast soon. I told a story about learning how to buy and sell cars in college. Here’s the unfair advantage we had for that business.

A review of "I Have the Watch" by Jonathan Haling “Leadership is a people business, and if we ever forget that, we become less effective in our roles as leaders.” I am always on the hunt for a new leadership book to see if there is some nuance or piece of wisdom I have not yet seen, so I was excited to find one written by a former submarine officer (he served on the USS Tennessee, a boat I also had the privilege of spending some time on board). I Have The Watch by submarine veteran and business leader Jon Rennie provides an excellent overview of what it means to be a leader. I found that it provided a wonderful introduction to the fundamentals of what it is to be a leader and what separates the studs from the duds. A few of the larger takeaways I had: “Leadership is the act of influencing a group of people to accomplish a goal. If we spend all our time completing tasks, we miss out on the important job of influencing.” This is something all leaders can fall victim to, the shift doesn’t usually happen drastically overnight but over a long period of the leader getting more and more “hands on.” Before they know it they don’t have time to manage their team because they are so busy being an individual contributor. While there is individual fulfillment in this and some value in the leader being willing to pitch in, when taken to the extreme the team will underperform because the leader who should be a force multiplier has abdicated his role of influence. “The problem is that most leaders don’t understand the power of their presence.” Being where the work is done or at the problem is valuable, even if the leader feels like “they don’t need me to be there.” Your presence is valuable to the team, being there to see and hear firsthand what the team is going through is critical. Default to being present with the team especially when they are working through difficult issues. “The sad truth is that most managers today have not received any formal leadership training.” It is a simple fact that most managers don’t receive specific leadership training, they are just expected to figure it out. What that means is that if you want to be an effective leader you need to assume the responsibility for your own training. Read leadership books, take on-line training, go to seminars, find a mentor, DO SOMETHING. This is a great read, for non-fiction it flows exceptionally well and really focuses on the main points without pontificating unnecessarily for long stretches. Take charge of your own development as a leader, go pick this book up, give it a read, and get to work!

@TimothyDooner Nothing beats the big picture view of a road atlas. Waze can tell you traffic conditions and speed traps, but that screen will never show the end-to-end view once you "Choose a route".

@cdrsalamander When I was a boy, we had working khaki and dress khaki. And we walked up hill, both ways in Bates floataways.

The Metaverse has evolved from the early internet into a blend of VR and blockchain, reshaping how we interact and work. I explore this in my book "Toward a Post-Digital Society," focusing on its societal impact. If interested > bit.ly/SpotMyBook Microblog @antgrasso

@MeghanNutting thanks for a well thought out, comprehensive list of how solar can be made more accessible. Many of these are self-inflicted issues that should be easily resolved, if the intention was truly there.

If, theoretically, one wanted to advocate to lower the cost of rooftop solar in the U.S., there are a number of helpful things they could do. Here’s the start of a list. I look forward to seeing what others may add.
