🎥x.com/uma_musu/statu… People tend to judge jockeys by what they see in the final stretch, so I understand why some think Yutaka Take is past it. Physically, he’s obviously not the same rider he was decades ago, and compared to younger jockeys, the way he finishes a race can sometimes look less impressive. But honestly, I still think he’s an exceptional jockey. A lot of riders today feel trapped inside patterns — push forward, sit wide, wait for the stretch, ride “safely” on favorites. Take still rides races like he is actually reading the structure of the race itself. Pace, rhythm, how much pressure the horse should take, whether the horse should learn something for the future, how the race shape might collapse later — I think he processes all of that at a very high level. So sometimes a ride with real tactical logic behind it simply ends up looking weak because he cannot physically impose himself the same way younger riders can anymore. I think that gap between his racing intelligence and his current physical ability is what makes him so difficult for people to evaluate properly now. His sense of balance is still incredible. Honestly, considering his age, you could even say he’s still physically remarkable too. Honestly, there are just too many jockeys who ride like they aren’t really thinking out there, so relative to that, it makes me rate Yutaka Take even more highly. I think he would still look unbelievable if he consistently had access to top-level Northern Farm horses.
