@PurrsonVT @Poerisija @DoeSparkle Not everyone has support, or even if they had someone willing, might not be able. The fact that you went through such an ordeal and still can’t empathise with others is disgusting.

@PurrsonVT @Poerisija @DoeSparkle Survivorship biased cunt. Not everyone’s you. I was briefly homeless too, and had people lend me a room. I’m not narcissistic enough to pretend that it was guaranteed I’d come out of it the other end. Maybe they’re shy, moved away from home, orphans, whatever.

If being homeless means death or worse and is also illegal, then obviously a large percentage of people will respond with deadly force if you try to make them homeless. The more desperate the streets get the more violence will occur. This isn't rocket science.

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths C’est la vie, I think back to how he told me with pride that he hadn’t had a joint since he was 40. I’d have rathered him constantly had a joint in hand and munchies than what happened. But only alcohol could’ve done that to him, iirc it was going cold turkey that finished him.

@Leedswaccoe76 @gabriellegrfths No, that is the current policy, as she said, and it is killing thousands every year. The right policy is regulation of drugs and a health approach to addiction.

@therex55213 @KnowingBetterYT The point is it’s a much too large issue to fix individually and we would never (on the left at least) dream of doing so with girls We’d send it to the women and girls commission, we’d have research done on how to fix it, etc. etc.

@KnowingBetterYT I'm actually, like, genuinely confused at why you've come at it this way. Sure, you can't guarantee *any* of them might change, but helping them unprompted in what few ways you can and talking about helping each other out more/organizing community is, like, a good thing, no?

@TheLastNeocon You should change that ukrainian flag to a russian flag. Jews come from Judea. They've lived there for 4000 years. They were ethnically cleansed in 1947 by Arab dictators who literally worked for Hitler. If you treated Ukraine the way you treat Israel you'd side with Russia.

Yes. Stop invading other countries for no reason, stop settling in the West Bank, and seriously negotiate a 2 state solution. If the Palestinians say no, keep trying. As long as you do that Americans will keep supporting Israel
Seth Mandel@SethAMandel

Israel is facing an unusually difficult challenge to its image in America. The question, then, becomes: what would it cost Israel to maintain its popularity? Could Israel plausibly live in safety and security while also keeping Americans' sympathy? commentary.org/seth-mandel/wh…

@Stocksnshares9 @renewablesmiffy Seems optimistic SMRs I’ve barely seen pushed by the right, and they were screeching and promising to either block, or if they can’t, disconnect the biggest wind farm in the UK when they take power

We have now reached a position in the UK where the climate change deniers want to build lots of non existent SMR to address a problem they say doesn’t exist and cover every home and car park with solar panels (instead of farmland) after telling us repeatedly solar doesn’t work

I’m not saying a well-informed person can’t oppose decriminalisation and/or legalisation but all who I have come across always immediately demonstrate they know nothing about the UK’s drug crisis or the Greens’ policy with some shit like “they want to legalise fentanyl”. Fentanyl is almost non-existent in the British drug supply and regardless, the entire point of legalisation is to eliminate harmful adulterants like fentanyl, or drugs actually relevant in this conversation like nitazines. No one does these drugs intentionally unless they have no other choice because they have no recreational potential. Reactionaries just jump to talking about fentanyl because they aren’t capable of defending their indefensible position and it’s the worst drug they can think of to demonise progressive drug policy. Under Green policy, only specific drugs of each category, which can be used safely with the safety information we will provide with every dose, will be legalised while the rest will only be decriminalised, meaning you won’t be punished for using them but they remain illegal to sell. Anyone who understands what fentanyl is could immediately tell you it is not one of the drugs that will be legalised, but reading our policy would tell you that too. And something you almost certainly didn’t already know is that most illegal drugs in the UK are already legal for personal use. The most common and well known drugs are, of course, illegal for personal use. But beyond those, all other drugs are made illegal by the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016, which doesn’t criminalise use. Drugs you have probably heard of like synthetic cannabinoids (aka spice or K2), almost all cathinones (aka bath salts), and salvia are already completely legal to use. So remember that next time you see someone who pretends to know what they’re talking about demonising the Greens for wanting to decriminalise the use of spice, a drug that was never criminalised in the first place.

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths Are you being silly? In their purest forms, it’s more dangerous than most drugs, full stop Killed my dad by 50, can kill you if you’re an alcki that gives up quickly, and can lead to violence, horrible for your body overall, even its purest Most drugs aren’t that dangerous

@FourSkinners @cezthesocialist But once the genie is out of the bottle and drug usage increases and becomes more socially acceptable it is going to be more impractical to reintroduce a ban. The taboo will be broken. Do you really think big business will sit back and let a lucrative new market pass them by?

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths Many of those drugs would be less harmful, and people would be incentivised to find one that worked for them rather than just drinking alcohol It would likely reduce drinking overall, and less societal problems, given alcohols violence tendencies Not many stoners light up+fight

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths 1. Alcohol’s one of the most physically dangerous drugs, basically no other can kill you from withdrawal alone 2. Because alcohol is easily accessible, it’s safe, drugs often aren’t, and we would save many more lives by making them so

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist Given the Puritanism that runs through each of our main parties and the kind of attacks they make on Polanski for daring to think about this not as a legal issue, not even with big business I don’t think they’d manage to lobby the government to make profits off of drugs

@FourSkinners @cezthesocialist I agree this would be great. But think about what would happen in practice. The state is the only enforcement mechanism. The rules might be very strict to start with but do you really believe that big business wouldn't lobby for their removal and eventually get a govt to agree?

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths Think about it, there’s a reason why people like MD at raves. Acid for philosophy. Coke for nights out, whatever. Because alcohol isn’t the best option for every situation, not the best for everyone. Nevermind how violent people are on alcohol

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths Drugs are already extremely normalised, any that aren’t won’t be legalised or wouldn’t be suddenly picked up by people It’s unsustainable only having one legal drugs when there’s so many different types of highs, uppers, downers, and hallucinogens, only having alcohol is silly

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist For as long as theres been people drinking alcohol, there’s been people making money from it Just don’t allow profits for any shareholders. No new companies can create it, create a non-profit company with the government, then give it autonomy. Any leftover profit to addiction

@Leedswaccoe76 @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths I’ll be clearer I suppose It’s all the worst aspects of an open market now, unregulated, no rules into what goes in, no standardisation. While also fuelling organised crime. If you can’t sell it openly, no rules are gonna apply to your product

@FourSkinners @cezthesocialist @gabriellegrfths That's a different debate. The point I was making is that we don't have a free market now. If drugs are legalised we will. You can argue about whether that is good or bad. Lots of people agree that free markets are an unalloyed good.
