@RobertMcCunn @CASESsocial I see this becoming more and more a problem as opportunities arise for people to engage with different industries or different ways of working But I dont see professional sport changing until they understand the importance of their staff (as you say with the Ferrari analogy)

🆕Latest in @CASESsocial TSES: Brain drain🤯 good staff are hard to find; even harder to keep. Clubs (⚽️🏉⚾️🏀) should care about support staff burning out and leaving the industry, if not for practitioner wellbeing, then for their own benefit!📈 🔗 bit.ly/3HPyAMq

Lots of male researchers expressing an interest in joining the editorial board, but so far very few females. I'm very keen to have a 50:50 split and encourage female researchers working in any fields related Exercise as Medicine to contact me or the journal directly.

I am more & more convinced that the technological advancement that's allowing us to collect more & more data (regardless of their validity) is becoming an issue rather than a resource. We should keep in mind that having numbers & running regressions is not enough to do "science"

Now, five years later, not only we see people still using it in practice (which is fair, everyone is free to follow the guidances they believe to be the best), but we see scientific journals publishing articles of new approaches based on a flawed approach..

As promised, the preprint is now out: "Blaming the Thermometer for the Fever: Separating Misapplication from Method in NHST" We push back against calls to ban dichotomous testing and defend error control—properly applied. Read here: ssrn.com/abstract=52121…
Daniël Lakens@lakens

We will soon post the corresponding preprint 'Blaming the Thermometer for the Fever: Separating Misapplication from Method in Null Hypothesis Significance Testing' which pushes back on the idea to ban error control in science by not allowing dichotomous tests.

I really don’t know what to say, which is a new experience for me! I’m a bit overwhelmed! Thanks @fi_tomas_ for choosing me. Also huge thanks to everyone I work with (at the Centre of Excellence for Women in Sport @McrInstSport @UKSportsInst); it takes a village to do research!

One More Time For The People In The Back 🧵 1) There is insufficient high-quality evidence to confirm or refute universal menstrual cycle phase based responses in [sports]women This is more than a lack of consensus amongst the scientific community, this is a lack of credible data

Once you realize p-values are probabilities relating to observing data rather than probabilities of an hypothesis being true, you are already doing significantly better than most people
