Bitcoin didn't eliminate trust. It redistributed it. The protocol replaced trust in banks with trust in math, distributed computation, and the collective agreement of participants to enforce common rules. That is a genuine achievement. But redistribution is not elimination. The trust went somewhere, and where it went has a surface that can be mapped and manipulated. "The network decides" sounds like a complete answer until you ask what the network is running. The network runs software. Software is written by people. Those people are funded by identifiable institutions and merge authority sits with five people who answer to no one. When you appeal to the network as a neutral arbiter, you are appealing to whoever controls what the network runs. The standard response to this is "anyone can fork it." There are three ways to read that and all three fail. 1) Fork the chain and you move the same development infrastructure, the same informal merge authority, and the same capture vectors to a different set of maintainers. 2) Fork the Core codebase and you inherit 17 years of technical debt, 300,000 lines of monolithic spaghetti code that the incumbent's own developers cannot maintain without shipping bugs that delete user funds. 3) Build a genuine alternative implementation from scratch and you face the third problem: without a formal mathematical specification to validate against, consensus compatibility means reverse-engineering undocumented behavior from Core and staying architecturally dependent on it by definition. Without it, no alternative implementation could prove consensus compatibility independent of Core. If the system were as open as advertised, the spec would already exist. None of this means valid transactions need anyone's approval. They don't. But "pay the fee and get mined" is not the end of the analysis. Bitcoin is a distributed state transition ledger, not a storage layer. Using it as one imposes a permanent cost on every node operator, without compensation, forever. The fee goes to miners. The storage cost goes to nodes. Those are different parties and only one gets paid. The failing informal governance is why that misalignment never gets corrected. The most durable capture is the kind that does not need to be maintained because its subjects maintain it themselves. Sincere people who genuinely believe it repeat it in every governance debate because the social environment of Bitcoin discourse has consistently rewarded that belief and punished the alternative. The mythology does suppression work without requiring anyone to coordinate the suppression. The protocol is permissionless. The people who control what runs on it are not.

Got my 5/21 @TimechainArtMag (Bitcoin Art Magazine) Genesis hard cover the other week and I believe this is going to be such a sought out #BTC collectible that I am not even going to break the seal on any of it. @asanoha_gold killed it on all levels on top of promoting #BTC art and artist. Like all great collections in the world, artwork is at the top of their collections and continues to age like fine wine. (True investments) I have nothing but the highest respect for what was accomplished here and am a #BTC art collector myself as well as being a #BTC artist. @design_sats @Fonta1n3 Peter Todd just said that bitcoin is not purely money, but its also for storing lots of data - in the BTC Prague talk released today. So the "purely money" thing isnt as cut and dry as you may imagine. Send the 10k sats please.
