Read: #Steelers QB Situation: Pittsburgh has been in a tough QB situation for the last four seasons. Part of it their own mistake: Drafting Kenny Pickett rd 1 & Pickett showing enough capability early on to stick with him. Part of it due to their own regular season success, later draft picks & relatively weak QB classes. I'd argue (and did) that getting the Wilson/Fields combo in '24 was the best possible option from what was available. Last yr I advocated paying Darnold $90M/3 yrs with Aaron Rodgers as a fallback plan. Again, I'd argue Steelers made the best of a not-good situation. Though they didn't even compete for Darnold. That was clearly a mistake. This year, I think there is again a clear "best option," but it doesn't seem to be widely-discussed, rumored or popular among the fanbase. But before getting to that let's discuss Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers gave the Steelers exactly what I think most people expected on the field in '25. He was roughly a league-average QB. The arm & smarts are still elite, but his mobility was a massive negative. There were 5 games where Rodgers was a zero and the team had no chance. Off the field, by all accounts he was a GREAT teammate, good in the QB room and liked by all. But can you sign up for that again? I can't. I was all for Rodgers last year. I thought there was a chance they could make the playoffs & he could carry them. He can't do that anymore. That's clear. So what's the point? The upside is gone. I cannot see why anyone would want to bring him back at age 43. My answer? MALIK WILLIS. I certainly get that some fans don't like Willis. Great we can have a difference of opinion, but hear me out. As @CSimmsQB said, "Malik Willis has a chance to be a franchise-superstar type of quarterback...Tremendous. Where he's come from to where he is now, he's a machine throwing the football....His mechanics are really good." What more do you want in a QB evaluation? Throw in he has great mobility. Where else are you getting that this offseason? You don't have to agree, but the difference here, much like the bet on Justin Fields is upside. There is upside that didn't exist with Wilson or Rodgers. And there is upside here that doesn't exist in the draft or in Rudolph or likely in Will Howard (yea, we can all hope). And that is the name of the game in today's NFL. Can you find a QB w upside. Fields obviously couldn't throw accurately. Elite athleticism, but if you can't throw it, it doesn't matter. Malik Willis has the athleticism AND, more importantly, he can wing it. And he isn't going to break the bank. Lots of speculation around $20-30M/year. I feel like you want to win this. So offer the best deal out there that doesn't kill you if you're wrong. 4 yrs/$120M, w $60M gtd. You are on the hook for 2 yrs. If you are right, You renegotiate after yr 2 and it's a huge win. If you're wrong. The cost in today's NFL is not gonna make a difference. Fortune favors the BOLD. Sign Malik Willis.
