Earlier this week I was trying to look up the docket for a case and it took me six tries ($0.60) to figure out the right way to search for it. PACER is terrible.

My favorite is when I enter a case number in PACER exactly as it appears in a published case caption and PACER charges me $0.10 to tell me no such case exists.

@somayaji99 @andrewarruda CourtListener’s API is not free except for single-user testing, and their coverage is spotty. I’d guess they have well less than half the cases that Westlaw does. Statutes, regs, admin decisions, and more also not included.

@jjhughes @somayaji99 @andrewarruda We do charge for commercial uses, yes, but we provide extensive free API access for prototyping, and we provide huge access for researchers and academics. Users in this thread have made hundreds of thousands of API requests, for free, while working at mega law firms.
