@sherwinarnott @pfairley @HarbourCats @CityOfVictoria @WeAreNorthPark We've been hearing a lot about near misses from residents as well as users of the bike lanes that pass right by. This is a city owned park and it's only a matter of time until someone gets seriously injured or killed.

Why support City Council in retaining and reclaiming green space in Central Park for Victoria's northern neighbourhoods? 57% of downtown/harris green + north park households live in apt. buildings of 5+ storeys. It's the yard for family celebrations, the stoop for neighbour talks

We agree with Mayor @lisahelps — parks are a crucial part of healthy communities. Topaz Park is community hub, as is Central Park. The tennis courts, basketball courts, playground, fields, and outdoor gym at Central Park are used by people of all ages and abilities.

@SpiritofSaanich That is such sad news. We have a barred owl in Central Park (beside #CrystalPool) — he's known as the 'Bard of North Park' and he's pretty beloved by folks in out neighbourhood. Very sad to read about the loss of the Kings Park owl 🦉

This owl died to save the park. We will not forget its sacrifice. Protect this Greenspace Now!

Central Park is where we connect with nature. 🌳 "The team of scientists found that the link between access to green spaces & a greater level of green behaviour was true across the social board, whether it was older or younger people, rich or poor, male or female." #crystalpool

Without funding or a community centre, residents are still getting active & have created formal & informal grassroots recreational programs in the park. Tai chi, bball tournaments, the cross-country ski track that appeared this week... This park is such a success #crystalpool

Central Park is where the n'hood comes together. The 🎾 & 🏀 courts are used by diverse groups every day of the year. Sun, rain, snow(!) — you'll find neighbours of all ages & abilities socializing & connecting with nature. ☀️🌧️❄️ This park is more than just a pool. #crystalpool

@alferraby Sure, by all means, let’s build over North Park’s only decent green space so we can save a parking lot for Saanich commuters.

The 940 Caledonia site would allow the existing pool to stay open during the construction process with no disruption to park users — youth, families, school groups, older folks, baseball, soccer, tennis & basketball players, and dog walkers. ⚽🏀⚾🎾🐶 #CrystalPool

Absolutely - small pocket parks such as Gore Peace Memorial Park shown here, will become increasingly important and common as our city grows and densifies.

Building the new #CrystalPool on the city-owned parking lot at 940 Caledonia Ave is consistent with a pro-equity, pro-ecology agenda and avoids building on an inner-city park (destroying a mature urban forest canopy and shutting down busy, well-used neighbourhood park amenities).

So proud of Central Park users and the residents of North Park, Hillside Quadra and downtown for coming out to City Hall tonight in such solidarity. A great decision reached by Council because of you. #wearenorthpark
