Europe is mostly upset that President Trump is cutting off the gravy train and closed the ATM. European became accustomed to the USA paying for 80% of their defense, they spend just token amounts and instead fund their welfare state. Europeans loved having the USA fund the United Nations, while they get to decide how to spend it. Europeans loved the USA having open markets, while they had tariffs making it more difficult for US products to compete in Europe. Previous US presidents applied zero pressure to the Europeans to carry their own weight. Previous US presidents just let the Europeans be smug and sniff their own farts. Now Europe is shocked that Trump is not allowing Europe to continue to rip us off financially. Trump is forcing a new relationship that will require Europe to pay up what they owe if they want to remain relevant.
